I want to buy a car in the TRNC instead of renting all the time I am have not got temporary residency but am over 60, is this allowed.

Make sure when you buy, if you have another half ,regardless of whether they drive or not. Put both names on the log book at the time of purchase. Saves endless problems if one dies.

One other word of warning. Check that any second hand car you buy has no outstanding fines on the registration number. We've bought 4 second hand cars in the last 9 years and its best to check that out.

Have a look at buying a new Hyundai or other make. The prices might be less than you think compared to buying secondhand and you get a 5 year guarantee.

Is it allowed? Well it's a can of worms because you will probably need a TRNC driving licence this may possibly be obtained without residency and if so all will be fine until you are in an accident... then the gap in the law that you would be exploiting might not go in your favour....If it involves a local you will be sure to be blamed no matter what the other driver was doing on the basis that if you are technically driving a car you should not be due to not having the correct status in law it's up for debate and that's not good - I would check this out before you go to the expense of buying.

Loads of apocryphal tales of people not having problems... are OK for the risk taker... is that you? Personally until the whole situation is enshrined in laws that don't argue against each other vis a vis residency/driving licence and their application depending on the peccadillo of the officers dealing with any applications or accident investigations - given the new no-claims insurance rules they are bound to be more assiduous in their deliberations as to liability one would have thought.
