We have a couple of friends who use this service - its great for them - only for email banking etc - no good for streaming loads of data - thinks its Turkcell - not 100% sure on cost - maybe 40TL for 2gb per month? dont quote me on that though. Not sure how much the dongle is though, but you get them in lemar. Not much help I know, but I am sure someone will be along shortly with better info.

it is the only way, but you need a USB connection on your device.

The only other was is to get multimax holiday package, but that is to the property and you have to own it.

That will do for starters both thanks .

I will see what a dongle costs when out and will take little lap top ,rather than I pad.

Called Into e and voda in UK and both said they dont support devices abroad only UK

Hi
I use a dongle and Turkcell3G connection at 10gb per month costing 70TL - but I use a laptop as it has the ports required. That allows me to use internet access at a fair speed and quality for all I need really.
Cant remember what the dongle cost but it was not very expensive.
Good luck

I should have added that when I am out and about where there is WIFI I just use my Kindle Fire and it allows me to access all as per in the UK. That is handy particularly when I need to download more books onto my kindle as I have no WIFI at my house in North Cyprus.

The Turkcell staff in Lemar's are really helpful, I took my netbook in and they set it all up for me and I saw them do the same for a Russian couple with a 3g enabled ipad. Sometimes when I re-load the dongle I get an extra 10g, I haven't worked out why, but I find 2 lots of 10g gets me through 6 weeks, good value compared to the UK!

You can buy a mifi which works the same as conventional Turkcell dongle. It enables you to use internet wifi wherever you are, including iPads as long as it's with you , say in a handbag. It also allows up to 5 devices on it at once. In the villa, I just leave it plugged in, in the kitchen. You top it up in the same way as the normal dongles. I now have wifi in the villa & use my ipad instead of the netbook all the time. It also saves you having a monthly contract as I come & go to Cyprus. I got mine in Laconic in Alsancak, but you can buy in UK & then use a Turkcell SIM in it. I assume it was an unlocked one tho.

that sounds really interesting - would that mean I would not have to lug my laptop over with me each time and could use an IPad instead?
I always just stuck to the dongle but had to use the laptop for the port that you don't get on the IPad.
thanks

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Huawei-E586-M ... 4ad6ff2b42

Used this type for past 4 years unlocked used world wide with local data sim.
We use 3gb Telsim (45TL) in Nc, lasts 30days, if purchased from Telsim shop they activate the sim, if from supermarket you have to activate yourself by sending a text via your 3 home page.

Hope this helps

Journey1 yes it would. It's just like the Turkcell dongle but with wifi capabilities. Therefore once set up, your ipad & up to another 4 devices can use it. Top it up as before, as I said, I leave it in villa plugged in & when I go out, I leave in my handbag.
The above link is more or less what I have got, but mine is an actual Turcell one as I was in Cyprus when I found out about them.

Would it possible to connect a mifi to an iPad with a USB adaptor? Would save having to take the laptop just fit a USB connection.

Hi Teri

That question if answered by somebody more technical would help me .
I could then take a iPad ( lighter ) and connect USB if there is a adaptor to do so .

Anybody know ?

Failing that sticky 1 on 11 thanks

With 3G (mobile phone internet), if you want to connect an ipad your options are.

Use an ipad with built in 3G. Buy you local sim with data from turkcell or telsim and put it into the ipad

Use a smartphone to share the 3G internet connection with other devices (like the ipad). Buy you local sim with data from turkcell or telsim and put it into the smartphone (ensuring that the smartphone is not locked to a specific mobile phone provider if it is not from same company you get the sim from) and then share the connection via wifi to other devices (like ipad) - some info on connection sharing from an iphone here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4517 - you can do the same with an android based smartphone too.

Use a portable (battery powered) 3G modem like the one sticky1 linked to in post 11 and dawnie1 spoke of in post 9 or like this one http://www.kktcell.com/tr/bireysel/kesf ... -vinn-wifi . Buy you local sim with data from turkcell or telsim and put it into the 3G modem (ensuring that the modem is not locked to a specific mobile phone provider if it is not from same company you get the sim from) and then share the connection via wifi to other devices (like ipad)

You can not use a USB based 3G modem (often called dongle) like this one http://www.kktcell.com/tr/bireysel/kesf ... kcell-vinn with an adapter for your ipad. See here for more info http://discussions.apple.com/message/19482503

Errol that's the one I have, really pleased with it. My netbook is redundant & I just use the ipad now.

Kav to be honest I cannot remember, I know it came with several gb of use included. I bought it last year. My neighbour bought one in UK & that was unlocked, that I do know. They just put a Turkcell SIM in it. Prices were comparable from memory too. My one is not unlocked, it's locked to Turkcell.

Reading back through this thread, just to clarify, the dongle is not plugged into the ipad. Because it's got wifi capabilities, as long as it's relatively near you, it will work. I can use mine thoughout the villa, no problem. It's just left out on work surface. The batteries don't last that long, so keep it plugged in whilst at home & use battery whilst out. You don't need the above USB link to use the mifi.

Had a few chancres with price for the turkcell mifi modem at 400ytl ,so didn't buy .

Came home and bought this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Huawei-E5331-Sp ... i+unlocked

It's unlocked and ready to go with a sim .

Other half over next week so she should be ok to buy a turkcell sim and top it up etc .

Still think my dongle for sale is a bargain at less than £14.... It is a genuine Turkcell 3g dongle. No batteries to worry about just slip in a SIM and plug it into a USB port and you are off...

I agree Groucho but it is simply having the iPad for me that I can't get a wifi on mine .

This enables me ( and others) to use internet easier .

Send me pm of picture etc please
