Why would you want to change the name? As long as you pay it, KibTek don't care whose name is on it.

I sold earlier this year. My TC buyer has a sister who is a lawyer, and she handled all the paperwork, including the change-over of the electricity, and Yes, I did get my deposit returned, 460 TL of the original 500TL within 6 weeks.

I changed it because I don't want my name attached to my old property , In case Kibtec come after me for un paid bills in the future .

The 'real' question is why are Kibtec allowed to discriminate against expats (yabancı nakit ineği?). Yet another example of the rip off state here with TC price and expat price prevailing across the trades.

Tomsteel, that would be because an expat is not a citizen and can not be stopped from leaving the country, only stopped from reentering! An expat would have to commit a major crime to be stopped from leaving and I doubt that an unpaid leky bill counts as a major crime here! So, should an expat happen to leave forever without paying what they owe - perish the thought that any expat would break the law - at least there is some form of financial payback to KibTek.

The 469tl applies to everyone. That is, Cypriots as well as foreigners. I (a TC) should know as I have just changed names on my kibtec account for my new property.

My TC neighbour certainly did not have to pay any deposit. He paid only for connection and his meter was already in situ, that was 6 years ago though.

waddo, despite your explanation, it is still discrimination against a part of the TRNC society.

I too changed a kibtek account into my name at beginning of this year and I too paid 469 'deposit' to do so and I too am a trnc citizen complete with kimlik card.

So the point of view that expats will abscond is baseless. What is the deposit charge used for, other than increased bank interest at the expense of customers who can only use one monopolised provider?

My TRNC neighbour had to pay the lira as well,so I would think its for everyone.
