Roof Tank

Our tank on the roof that supplies our hot water through 2 Solar Panels has started to leak from a rusty patch on the bottom.

Would anyone know if these are repairable or what the cost of a new one would be, including fitting?

Appreciate any replies,

Regards,

John.

Thanks Lem, don't suppose you have a number we can ring, we are in Alsancak so if the fitters are this side all the better.

Suggest you have a good look at your solar panels too and if they are also in need of replacing then consider A Super Solar System. I had the TRNC made ones and in 9 years had to replace the tank three times and the panels were then exhausted. I was lucky to get a virtually new super system, copper pipes, stainless steel tank and proper insulation and expansion tank, second hand and the difference in the water heat is amazing and the system is guaranteed for five years. With the old system we only used it in June, July, August and September but the new system will be efficient all year round with just the odd boost from boiler or immersion. There are several companies who do these but if you want my man send me a private message for his phone number. I think the super system would cost new in the region of £1500.

Thanks for all your replies. We have someone coming tomorrow to replace the tank and fittings for £210, and recommended by a good friend, so thanks for all the help.

Regards, John.

Just another thought for you guy's. All prices are an average. The standard hot water tank has an average life of three years and costs 600TL for a new one! That's 200TL a year. Plus a new heater thing inside, don't know the cost of that. Plus the fitting. Let's say a round 700TL every three years. Unless you are very lucky the local made solar panels will give you hot water in the summer (1 tank full at a time) and warm-ish water in the winter/spring. You have to use your electric heater to boost your hot water around 5/6 months of the year and if you have visitors then its more and more electric due to more people washing and the solar system not being able to keep up with demand.
Five years ago I disconnected my electric heating bit and installed a gas boiler outside - wonderful and endless supply of hot water! The cost in gas to run it for six months worked out to one big gas cylinder (the big blue torpedo type thing you can buy from the supermarkets) at 200TL. Simple math gave me three years running for 600TL or the same cost as a new hot tank! This year I have replaced my old steel water tank on the top of the tower with a plastic tank on the ground, done away with my hot water tank and solar panels altogether and got rid of the horrible old water tower as well. Have to admit here that I have done all this work to make it easy for myself/wife in later years as now everything is at ground level and easy to get at and fix/service.
I am not a plumber! I am not an electrician! I am a telecommunications guy, not an engineer but I have Googled the world and am willing to take a stab at anything. Now I have a system that works really well, provides hot water all years round, whenever I want it and we use less water through wastage of waiting for the hot to get to the taps. The original boiler is still going strong, I clean it down once a year and have it serviced once every three years or if it ever should produce black smoke or a yellow pilot light - very carefull with the gas side of things!!!
Overall costs were not big as no labour costs involved and my estimate of gas costs per full year will be around 300/400TL. We think that is fine for a full years endless and (almost) instant hot water. Comments welcomed!!!
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.
