Need a Gardener

Can anybody put me in touch with a reliable gardener who can spend about 4/5 hours general tidying and weeding my garden? Started to do it myself but the oul back gave way on me!!! It would be an 'as needed' arrangement and not a regular daily position.
Many thanks.

Try to get a local to do this as out gardening guys from the East charge a fortune.
We are not in the UK so we do not pay UK wages.
Look at the Government minimum wage to see if the price is right.
1,700 TL divided by 28 is a starting point and that is well over the pay scale.
That will give you the daily rate at a 8 hr day with a hour for lunch which is not provided, that is what they get in the building and construction trade.
Why pay gardeners more??
They pinch your plants and sell them to the next customer, I have been there and caught them doing it.

Typical ex pat attitude, racist and tar everybody with the same brush.
My TC hubby is in full time employment in the parks and gardens dept of Girne but is legally allowed to work in his spare time.
He is an honest hard working person who has never stolen anyones plants.
Most of his spare time work is for TC,s who invariably supply him with coffee, cola and other drinks and at lunch times practically force feed him. The pay is also very good.
I wonder why he refuses offers of work from brits.
And, by the way, as you all bleat on about illegal workers, do those of you who do employ gardeners, cleaners etc, supply them with work cards?
If not, you, as well as them, are breaking the law and liable to fines when someone, probably a brit, rings the
'grass line'.

Blue Butterfly.
Not my attitude at all. I usually discuss payment with the person before any work begins. They have the option to take the work or refuse it. I always supply drinks....tea,coffee water etc. and also lunch if they want, they often refuse food though. Did you reply to my post because you know somebody? If so, Could you give me a call?
Thanks.

I am also a TC so back off, I was not referring to our local workers but those from outside the TRNC.
I caught one of our gardeners pinching young plants he admitted he was selling them to another person.
I agree only employ local people to help the economy, the others send the money home and only a very few have work permits.

If you do supply lunch be it gardener or cleaner, please ask them what they want to eat!! When we first moved here we were loaned a house for 4 months which came with cleaner twice a week. It wasn't until week 4 that I realised that most of the food was being dumped in the bin or just around the outside of the main gate. Reason - my idea of a lovely packed lunch with fruit wasn't the same as hers!! All that was required was local bread, tomatoes and occasionally a tin of tuna, plus water from the tap not the cooler. Cooler water was considered dangerous.

Presumably that would be a fair rate to pay a gardener then.

Unskilled workers should not be paid more than the MINIMUM wage whoever they are .

ailletoo: If you can hang on that long I suggest you postpone looking for a gardener until the end of the month, because it is currently Ramazan - and without wishing to be politically incorrect , anyone who is abstaining from taking in liquid during the day while doing heavy work cannot be at their best, and anyone who has just sufficient to manage will probably not be looking for more work until after the fast is over. Its particularly hard this year because, apart from the heat, the long days extent the hours of abstinence!

What I objected to in your post was the fact that you said ''they steal your plants and sell them''. Because you caught one doing it doesn't mean they all do and to begrudge another human being a bite to eat is just going beyond mean.
Ailletoo I admire your attitude, at least offer people something to eat/drink and to get back on thread, yes, I do have the number of an honest, efficient and reliable gardener, I will pm you.
