Convert VHS to CD?

To all techies, before we get rid of my old VHS player we have some personal tapes that would be nice if we could convert to disc. My old HP Pavilion laptop which is struggling along actually has a DVD rewrite capability.
Presumably I should be able to get a cable to copy the tape to the laptop then convert to disc????
Any sensible suggestions would be appreciated.

I gave an old VHS recorder to KAR shop at Karakum a few weeks ago, they might still have it and it works.

I loaned/gave (can't remember which) a tape to CD converter kit, to Kibkom member, Papa Bravo, In March of this year. If he's reading this, maybe he could pass it on.

KWAKERT4, you did indeed lend me the kit. I am not too computer proficient, but after some jiggling I got the job done - THANK YOU VERY MUCH. After I finished, I tried to contact you on your mobile, but all I got on each occasion was a pre-recorded message in Turkish.
I will pass it on to LooseBoots if he wants it. If he does not, I will try and contact you again so that I can return it to you.
Once again, thank you, and sorry for the delay in returning it.

Hi Papa Bravo, I came back to UK on May 11th. I won't be back until October. I took the Turkcell sim card out of my dual sim phone. Feel free to pass on the kit, I think loose boots does some work for charity. I'm glad it did the job for you.

Either I am not very good at JIGGLING or my laptop is more crap than I thought. Last night tried to covert old kiddies panto tape.............. sound but no pic. Put another tape in and yes it worked for 40 mins till my laptop over heated . Today even THAT tape will only do audio.....checked settings , connections everything but no luck.
Even rigged up the video machine to the T.V. and the video played fine.....so it`s not the VR.
Will have another go tomorrow....fed up now........but may be a visit to the shop after all this...

Looseboots,I have to be honest I have only had some success. It seemed better when I used three lads and not the scart. Will have another go on some winter evenings. Some of the ones I did came out in Black and White!! Good Luck.If I still lived there the shop by Illelis sounds like a good bet.
