News from the TRNC Press Office is sad but not surprising. Read on:

Nami: “ Negotiation process has completely collapsed”
Minister of Foreign Affairs Özdil Nami said “ Negotiation process has completely collapsed”.
Adding that instead of giving positive messages regarding the negotiations, sides blame each other and it is very difficult to overcome this, FM Nami said that Greek Cypriot side takes steps backward in the negotiation process and corrupted confidence building measures with their last proposal.
Moreover, evaluating the statement of US Vice President Joe Biden “ Key is in the hands of Turkey” as a populist and unfortunate statement, Nami said that there is no any deadlock in the negotiation process which is caused by Turkey and it is not possible for the Turkish side to overcome the difficulties caused by Greek sources.
Speaking during a programme on Sim Tv yesterday, FM Nami evaluated the negotiation process in Cyprus and gave information about his foreign contacts.

Are we surprised, what now. Is there a "plan B"?

Plan B is always the same one - wait till next elections are over and start again. Publicity, publicity, publicity - the power of the press and the Internet is the only thing worth looking at! Make the situation public to the entire world and let the world take up the banner for this isolated Nation!!!

Hydrocarbons = power (pun not intended). The big players on the world stage will only take serious interest when the gas/fuel flows and what route will be used to transport it. How much longer must the Turkish Cypriots suffer for the illegal actions of the Greek Cypriot Government of the 1960s?

Totally agree with you tomsteel, however the British Government is also hugely responsible for this States predicament and continued isolation. The UK Government has a moral responsibility to recognise the TRNC and admit to it's own failings as a Guarantor power.

Gavin, spot on! UK Government of 60s/70s complicit in this debacle. Another example of world-wide British diplomacy at its best (sic).

I doubt very much if negotiations have broken down.

It's just political posturing and scaremongering at its best.

I'm sure the talks will continue because the USA have a vested interest in the benefits of a settled Island.

Art, you may have a partially valid point. However, the geo-politics of Cyprus involves much more than what the USA wants. The RoC has massive Russian financial investment, the TRNC has Israeli/Turkish/Russian/European investment - the USA has little investment in either state less their military use of UK assets (paid for by the UK taxpayer). Soon the RoC will assist Russian military forces usage of bases. In my opinion, the USA is in danger of missing the boat here, unless Turkey throws it a life-line.

Just seen thi son Al azeera news. Interesting statistics.

Do KibKomers agree? Or do you think that it doe snot represent your thinking. It would be interesting ot know exactly how many people were included in this poll on either side. I wasn't! Were you?

It does say the poll was only open to 500 each selected Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots. Interesting poll though!

Thanks Owl. Just shows \I did not read it properly. Actually I saw the result son telly and rushed to find the web page. Hmmm. It IS interesting, but I wonder who the 500 on each side were. I have an interesting book 'How to Lie with Statistics' and ever since I read it, I am skeptical of polls.

So that is one thousand people out of almost one million. Hmmmmmm

Thanks for the other links! Fascinating and interesting .

"We have Lies,... We have Damn Lies,.. then we have Statistics"

Not many know this, but UK Government Unemployment Statistics are not actual Data. They are taken from a monthly poll of 1000 'selected' people. Yes,.. just 1000!
The Government and ONS claim the error potential is below +/- 2%.
Independant University research shows up to +/-10%!

Are we worried? Please select:
1: Definitely
2: Probably
3: Unsure
4: Not really
5: Not at all

owl what a wonderful phrase.
These talk will carry on, it was just one politician spouting, this man is not even included in the talk.
Lets wait and see in the next few days what will happen reference the talks.
I know the G.C.s are trying to derail everything with their demands that the last agreements are not relevant and need to be renegotiated, this has gone on over the last four Governments and we are due a new one next year.
Things in a small community will never change, there are as many people living in the T.R.N.C. as there are in Portsmouth. They run on a Town Council.
This island over many years North and South have given jobs to people for votes and there is no way out politically, each side sees the need to keep as many people employed and following the correct political party of the day.

Things will not change in my lifetime, and as a lot of KibKom members will know I have been involved in the politics of the T.R.N.C, but we are unable to change the Island mentality.

Can't see any agreement in the foreseeable future, GCs will never PowerShare with the minority, and the TCs won't agree unless they have an equal say, so the pantomine will go on forever. Stalemate, as long as the North is never recognised the GCs will be happy as we offer little competition to there tourist trade and economy.
I'm happy with the status quo , no cheap flights full of assoles and a peacefull existence while I wait for God

Mark Twain should also have said (if the bikini had been invented by then) "Statistics are like a Bikini - What they hide is more interesting than that which they reveal!"
