Paperwork for over 60's Residency

Hi, as we are now both over 60 has anyone over 60 recently done residency and what paperwork did you need to produce.

I know what it says on the BRS website - Muhtars letter, Passport, Pink book and copy of Bank Statement but don't want to turn up without the umpteen copies of everything that you had to do when under 60.

Also, what is the current cost and stamp required.

Many thanks

Mrs. Boerboel

Did our residency last month all we needed was muhtars letter, pink book and passport. Stamp was 9tl I think! but you can get them from the cafe just down from the office. We went just before they closed for lunch, no one there it was so easy in and out in less that 20 minutes.

There is also a form that needs to be filled in. It is on the BRS web site but if you need a copy emailing I can do it if you pm me your email address.

Thanks to all who answered but just want to confirm that production of Kocan/Rental Agreement is not needed and also that Bank Statement may not be asked for (don't like giving them that sort of info!!).

So if anyone is going in the next few weeks would appreciate any update, but thanks again to Poppy for original answer.

Anybody over 60 going for residency, before you part with your money, ask at the desk is it necessary for you to pay.
If you don't ask & just pay, you will be wasting your money. Who better to tell you than immigration themselves.

tinker - we are still of the will we won't we brigade, however, we have lived here for 7 years and never been to the South (wouldn't know how to get there as never wanted to) and we only go back to the UK every couple of years or so. So with that in mind always have the worry that if we don't re-new and then try to fly out at any time, we will be landed with a very big fine at the airport for being way past our renewal date. So although we begrudge handing over the money will carry on doing it until someone in authority puts it in writing that we don't have to. Have to say, we are not holding our breath on that ever happening though!!

BOERBOEL .. Who better to ask than the people you pay your money to.
If you are over 60 they will tell you the pros & cons & whether you need to pay for residency.
We went & asked & were told no, no need you are over 60.
We have been south many times, no problem.
Flying from Ercan later this year. no fears.
Friends have flown from Larnaca, over 60, no residency, no problem.
If it was "etched in stone", some people would still doubt.
ASK BEFORE YOU PAY.

It never will Owl Lady. You are wasting your money. Simply ask at immigration next time you go to re-new.
Provided you are over 60.

I am with you Owl Lady and so is my husband. Happy to pay for the privilege of living here, and also as I want to be a citizen (if ever) then one has to have a certain amount of residency stamps. So I guess I am doing it for my own ends, and those who are not wanting to get residency feel that is right for them. But as this is my only home, it is not a path I would go down yet - until it is written in blood on the walls of the Immigration Office (or similar!!!)

I'm with you Owl Lady & Marions. Not necessarily looking for citizenship, just want to feel safe & secure.
Look how quickly things change without warning. A recent post about residency requirements for regular blood doners an example!!
Tinker states in his/her post "been to & fro to the South many times no problem". Could that make a difference? I don't know.
We're in the same position as you Boerboel. Very rarely go South and only return to the UK every couple of years, so prefer to err on the side of caution
If wasting my money means feeling secure then it's not wasted.

Like Marion. I would also like citizenship, but won't hold my breath on that one. At least we would be able to vote!! HA HA

Like you Bonnie, we will continue to do residency to be safe as have yet to see anyone come on here that has not done it to say that they do NOT go to the South every so often which am sure does make a difference. So come on - is there anyone out there who does not go South and taken the chance on flying out, I won't hold my breath on an answer

I was told by a minister that we wouldnt be able to vote if we got citizenship. Also if you are out of the country for more than 90 days you lose it. As its going to be very expensive if and when then why bother what would the advantage be?

BOERBOEL,
Not sure what your question is? I have not renewed my residency this year or last year. I have flown out of the South and Ercan many times no problem at all. Yes we do go South frequently but why should that make a difference?

BOERBOEL ..
Our residences were due end of Feb .. We asked at immigration if we had to renew .. The answer was no, both are over 60 ..
People will say they have done this & done that ..
The thing to do is go to immigration in Lefkosa & ask there yourself .. They are the people that let you in & out of the country ..
Do this a week or so before your residency expires .. We did exactly that & saved ourselves 1000TL ..

Mollie the cat - My point being that as you go to the South frequently you will have had probably 90 days stamped in your passport and would have flown out within those 90 days. What I was asking was is there anyone out there that has previously done residency but not renewed, not been South and then decided to fly out say 2 years down the line.

harita - We always go early and yes will certainly ask the question this time.

Deniz1 the comment re voting ,was said tongue in cheek! As Bonnie (posting 21) said, paying is for piece of mind. If I waste my money, so be it, I will at least sleep easy.

I was told recently by a Cypriot that if Brits are awarded residency ( permanent ) that they could vote in local elections but not in a general election. Maybe that is where the confusion is.

Hi, I've only recently joined this forum as we are intending to move to TRNC, from mainland Turkey, later this year. We have been told that over 60's no longer need an RP.

We are over 60 and obviously have never had a Cyprus Residence permit, so what if anything, will we need to do to be legal once we have moved there? Do we still have to go to immigration and register or can we just arrive and stay without any documents.

Advice appreciated. One of the reasons for our move is that we're fed up with the Turkish bureaucracy.

Before I get shot down, I have been coming here since 1972 and lived permanently for 9 years. Friends of mine left Cyprus 3 years ago to live in Turkey, like you they got fed up with the red tape, which they agreed was just "like "Cyprus. They now live in Bulgaria, let's see what happens next!! In your case maybe "frying pan fire" Good luck and welcome to Soner's mad house.

It never ceases to amaze and frustrate me that there is no central point where you can get the definitive answer to anything in NC. It's like grasping a bar of soap.

Don't matter what the question you will know you are at the central point when you get the definitive shrug of the shoulders!!!
