my friend had to go back to uk for health reasons and wants to claim back any contributions she made while working. She had a work permit so all was legal. Has anyone done this or knows now to go about it. Accountant used by the shop she worked in was not helpful. Nor was her employer. Both said she had to go to Lefkosa but didn't/couldn't say where. Any help re what paper work etc will be needed would help a lot. Also as she no longer has a bank account here will that be a problem? Thanks

Best of Luck to you! Sounds like a nightmare but hopefully coming back to the top may increase the response!

I was sure I wrote a reply to this message this morning but it seems it didn't go through. You have to make an application to the Kyrenia Tax Office and there are specific conditions for being able to claim back - I will try to find them in English for you or if not post a translation myself tomorrow am. I do know the application has to be done in person or by someone with power of attorney, not entirely sure how the payment is made but I do believe a local bank account would be required.

The FAQs they have online for claiming back are unfortunately giving a server error right now so I can't access them at the moment, will keep trying.

I asked my accountant this about 3 months ago, they advised that you can no longer claim these back as the law has changed and you would only be able to benefit from what you have paid in if you stayed here and retired or at some point there was a reciprocal agreement made with other countries. However, have to say there are lots of things my accountant has advised that has turned out to be incorrect so who knows??

Mishmash. I have just spoken to my friend who now lives in the UK. She returned 3 years ago after working here for over 8 years. She said you need to get a claim form from the pensions office, complete it and get your last employer to sign it. It will take about 6 months to get the cash. To be fair there is now another government.so it could all have changed again!!!This claim was last year.
