HELP!! have you or your loved ones had a stroke?

Please can anyone help by talking to me? my husband had a stroke on Thursday and I have a desperate need to know what to expect over the next few days/weeks.

The doctors from both the Kolan Clinic in Girne and Lefkosa and the doctors my husband has been subsequently been treated by at Lefkosa State Hospital have been absolutely fantastic and the treatment he has received I don't believe could be matched if we were still in the UK, we retired to this beautiful part of Cyprus 2 years ago.

Unfortunately due to the language barrier there have been a number of crossed wires as to what is happening to him and I was sadly led to imagine his time had come this afternoon.

If anyone else is or has been in the same situation please please pm me your phone number so that I can ring you for advice or simply to share experiences, maybe we can help each other through a very difficult time?

Hi Rubyroo, so sorry to hear your news. A week ago I lost a very dear friend who had a stroke 2 years ago. Every case is different and it would be hard for anyone (except maybe a doctor) to say at the moment exactly what you should expect. I think you need to have a talk with the doctor looking after your husband and almost certainly try and arrange for a translator to be present so you can ask all the many questions that must be going round in your mind. There are many people out there who, with the right help and support, have made very good recoveries from a stroke. Take care of yourself.

Really sorry to hear this . I was in the same boat 4 weeks ago when my husband had a heart attack and was rushed to Lefkosa
State hospital .

A lady working at the Girne Kolan hospital spoke to me after and said if I ever needed to talk to ring her . Her number is 05338418653 or 05338557046 . Her name is Lorraine Stuart.

May be she can help you .

Good luck to you and your husband .

Carol

Thanks for your concerns and wishes Owl Lady.

MaisieMoo, I am waiting for a doctor to ring me back to see if he is able to clarify what my husband is going through. Other contacts have been rallying round and I have a lady willing to translate for me too. I am sorry to hear you lost your friend, I hope the last two years were happy ones for you as I have known stroke victims who whilst not being able to perhaps speak have been very content.

Carol, I appreciate you taking the time to reply and I send my best wishes for your husband to make a full recovery. I did speak to Lorraine after my husbands stroke & as mentioned above I am hoping to talk to one of the doctors from the Kolan who was examining my husband when all of this happened.

Hi Rubyroo, My friend was virtually bed-ridden for the last 2 years but always looked forward to our visits and loved hearing all the 'office gossip'. I hope you get all the answers you need and wish you and your husband all the best.

Thank you MaisieMoo for replying. Unfortunately the stroke has proven to be more serious than was known. My husband passed away early Tuesday morning. I thank God he is now at peace.

I am happy that your friend has found some happiness after their stroke despite being so ill, and was able to cope positively with what was thrown at them, not everyone can do that.
