Returnable Efes bottles (Depozitolu)

Has anyone else noticed that Efes beer bottles now have the word DEPOZITOLU printed on the label?
It means 'with deposit' or 'returnable', and the price that you pay includes 0.20 TL deposit.
I've not tried taking any back yet, or even asked about it in the shops, as I only just spotted it.
Let's hope that it does something to cut down on the amount of broken beer bottles scattered about.
I remember the zeal with which we used to collect empty lemonade bottles when I was a kid!
Of course, we did live in a hole in the road, - LUXURY!

We buy Efes a crate at a time from the little off license at the back of Pia Bella. 60tl a crate of 24, take the crate back each time and swop for a full one. The first one cost a bit more, so I guess that we get the returns advantage, not a lot but a bit, but more importantly we don't throw bottles away.

I posted a thread on this subject some time ago. Lemar and Supreme say they sell it already discounted even though their signs at the time told a different story. In any event, no refund from them.

Hur Deniz offer a returns system on a case of Efes. 65TL for the first case and 59TL thereafter.

Hi Keith
The brown
depozitolu bottles have been in KKTC for as long as I've been coming here.
Back in the early 90s, when I was working in Istanbul, those
Efes bottles were the only ones
Efes sold. In about 1995 though,
Efes also started selling green
depozitosuz bottles ... at least on the mainland they did. However, I for one, continued buying and returning the brown
depozitolu ones - on the mainland, there was and still is a deposit on the bottles.
When I came here, I continued buying the
depozitolu ... only to be told a few months after arriving that there is unfortunately no system of reclaiming the deposit in Cyprus - the bottles are not refilled in Cyprus, and the KKTC
Efes distributor, who, by the way, is Ramadam Cemil (and whose headquarters are close to the bypass roundabout in Girne) doesn't send the empty bottles back to the mainland for refilling.

Allow me to correct myself ... the
Efes distributor is the Lefkoşa-based
Kaner,
not Ramadam Cemil.

We have an elderly local gentleman who comes on our site looking for empty efes bottles in the bins. He also collects cans and anything he can recycle. He told my husband he gets money back on the bottles.

Hi TBW,
It would appear your "elderly gentleman" is right - I have just checked with a friend of my wife's at
Kaner's head office and they do in fact have an
Efes refilling plant in KKTC (at Haspolat) and moreover the
depozitolu bottles are truly depozitolu.
It would seem strange to me then why the supermarkets/bakkals/off-licenses and
Kaner themselves unfortunately don't have a proper refunding system for the bottles - my experiences on this matter are the same as those of
Loose Boots (ie. in msg 3) - a few years ago, on returning a few of the classic brown
Efes bottles to a sizeable bakkal in Mağusa, I well remember my TC wife and I being told that there was no such refunding system in KKTC.
So, thanks to TBW's
eskici I've learned something new today ... the problem is that I've got used to drinking
Tuborg ... maybe for the environment I'll switch back to
Efes ...
