The branch you are referring to is probably the one at Karaoğlanoğlu - a little different from your somewhat bastardised version of the word. (The village was named to commemorate the death in action of the senior Turkish Army Officer who was killed in 1974 during the Turkish king intervention just as Ercan Airport was named after the Air Force major who as FAO was killed in the same action!)
You say banking practice of 20 years ago was far in advance of today's in TRNC.
Some advance. Some banking collapse. That advanced state of as did the UK baks.banking practices cost the UK taxpayer millions.
You might research a little and discover that current TRNC banking practices is in conformity with TRk.BanNear East es sat the NC Government, not the bank's ,requirements - purely to ensure that the TRNC banks do not follow the UK banks into obscurity.
I do not, and never have , paid bank charges at The Near East Bank.
Perhaps you should consider depositing more with the bank so that they have a chance of recovering the cost of administering your account.
There is no such thing as a free lunch!!

The pilot Gengis Topol was shot down over Lefka in 1964 in the first attempt to help the Turkish Cypriots.
You may go to the CMC golf club and see a picture of him on the wall over the fire place.
I have been a member at the golf club for 15 years and we love this guy.
I was with the UN ( not in 64 ) and the story of Gengis is not very nice and I will not repeat it on this forum.

Seems like you are living on a shoe string.
I don't pay bank charges but I do not have a account over 15.000 Euros as this is the guarentee from central bank, if they go tits up as happened to me with Tunca ( with 6 other banks ) bank you will get payed at a "ooops" extrange rate loose all your intrest on the investment from day one and end up pennyless like me.
BUT I still bank in TL and not with the mainland banks ( sorry I Have a account with HSBC TL ) as the rates are low. HSBC are my UK bank and they are on the ball.

Thanks everyone for your information. I may call in and speak to the bank and find out more of what they may offer.
