I know its difficult to know / define what is British.

But one that is British in cast and characters what is your favourite?

Brass off is one of my absolute favorite's

Love the music, the acting, the characters and the message it portrayed

Pete pooslthaite, one of the finested brititish actors ever (in my humble view)

Died so tragically young.

Finest cast on a British film that in my view has ever been made.

Also loved Billy Elliot

Never heard of 'Pete pooslthaite'(Sic)

Mind you he does sound like one of the 'finested brititish actors ever'(Sic).

Now, I'm a big fan of the late Pete Postlethwaite - he was a wonderful actor, and possibly one of the finest British actors ever.

Never heard of the other chap though-are you using 'Marions' keyboard by any chance?

And one of his films `Brassed Off` was a brilliant film funny in parts and very sad, telling in graphic details how on evil witch destroyed a coal industry and in doing so threw many men on the scrapheap, causing unbelievable poverty.

Yeah, Brassed off was excellent and Pete Postlethwaite amazing. He has done lots of films and seemed to do well in USA. Saw him in the constant gardener. brilliant. My favourite British film was "witness for the prosecution" with that amazing actor, Charles Laughton. Maybe goin back too far for people now as very old and was black and white. Always loved James Mason, class actor. Fantastic film also was "Amazing grace" about William Wiberforce, brilliant cast of actors in that.

I have 2 unforgettable favourites. A taste of honey starring Rita Tushingham and the tearjerker Cathy come home.

Both sad reflections on the attitude of english society at the time.

Sadly Cathy Come Home is still relevant today in the UK. The shortage of housing and price inflation have helped some middle aged people get rich when they jump of the housing ladder, but their sons and daughter can't even get on it. And the rented sector is full of short 6 month tenancies, OK for single people and couples, but no good for young families. Just goes to show that nearly 50 years since Cathy Come Home the British have learnt nothing!

Still you've reminded me that Ken Loach is one of the UK's best film makers, I loved his more recent works Land and Freedom and The Wind That Shakes The Barley.

After just reading of passing of Lord Richard Attenborough, my all time favourite film has to be with him in it - The Great Escape - I know it had characters of many nationalities in and it was an American film but this was the first time I really noticed this great man.
