I know why but yesterday in Lefkosia and Girne there were police at every junction and supermarket entrance and so many roads closed. It seemed the entire police force were just standing about looking bored. I am sure the Baskan wasnt going to visit the supermarkets!

Were you not aware that the new President (Erdogan) of Turkey made his first official visit abroad to the TRNC yesterday?

Visited Asok motors in Hespolat yesterday, I have never seen so many motorbike police, even the entrances to the garage had two police officers.
Returning to Girne we chose to use the mountain route when you left Hepolat there were soldiers on the roundabouts plus a small convoy with a anti aircraft gun on the back of one of the truck, this convoy was traveling very slow up the dual carriageway, all this was at about 11.30.

Interesting comment from the new President of Turkey! Ignore the normal "Pity Me" Greek responses.

His cavalcade consisted of 29 vehicles! Even the Queen doesnt have that many. At Soydan petrol garage in Karakum there were many rifle armed police waiting there maybe his cars needed a top up?

We realised it must have been Erdogan as we clocked our first outrider on the way back from Metehan the closer we got to Girne the "worse" it got, police at the entrance to every turning (even private houses in some case) Then great excitement, we and a couple of others were very nearly forced off the road when a bike waved us to one side and after a bit of a wobble we straighten up and HIS car roared past us just as we all approached the roundabout before the dual carriage way. We both remarked on the Queen and the entourage she has. Chalk and Cheese comes to mind and the fact that it was too hot for rebels, but it must have impressed our visitor, which I suppose was the object of the exercise.

He could have been sitting playing scrabble for all we knew - blacked out windows all round. Once again, unlike the Queen who goes out of the way to be seen.
