Please can anyone advise on how to access the Lapta walkway & how far is the walk?

It starts just after the Hotel strip, and is accessed across a rough track of sand and rubbish, finishing near Silver Rocks restaurant. However, ever since it was left (still incomplete) it has been covered in broken glass most evenings, with bottles, cans and other rubbish strewn on either side. It could be a tranquil walk, right by the sea, but instead, you have to watch where you put your feet.

OK, give us non Lapta-ites a clue - where does the "Hotel Strip" start and end then?

Or you could walk the finished section that starts near Sardunya Bay and is a clean and tidy 1.5km long. Head towards Karsiyaka and you will see the signs.

Am I right in guessing that if I drive West along the coast road and go past the sign for Silver Rocks, I will pick up the signs for the Lapta Walkway further on down the road on the right hand side? Don't get out that way much - lol.

I would do as JoandJelly suggested; head for Sardunya Bay.

From Girne direction, follow the road through Alsancak and Lapta ( pass the LA Hotel on your left side - you can't miss it) stay on this road and you will see a sign (which is situated on the left side of the road) which is for Sardunya Bay and points you down towards the see.

Park up there and then take a walk!

yes go pass the Silver Rocks, I am no good at distances but would think it would be approx 2 kms and look the signs for Sardunya Bay pointing to the right towards the sea. The end of the walkway is next to this cafe.

We start and finish at Sardunya cafe, park on their car park and have a lunch when we get back, that's during December to March they are lovely people at the cafe and the food is good.

There is a notice board there saying no dogs or bikes but on three occasions there were two dogs without leads and three children on bikes with the same Woman on the walkway, also other dogs without leads with owners.

The Lapta end of the footpath is finished but two bridges/walkways need to be built for completion - one around Silver Rocks and the other around the small fishing boat harbour a bit further West. Next year/hol season - maybe?? But when they find they've spent all the money on glossy self-publicity handouts, I think they will find its cheaper to go around on dry land!! Also, maintenance will be expensive and why spoil the view?? In the meantime, as has been said, the Lapta path is a tip and seems to be the after closing venue for drinks and takeaway parties. After which, it is apparently obligatory to smash the bottles. There aren't any rubbish bins but I imagine the path hasn't been taken on by Lapta Beli yet??
Following up another point raised, as a dog owner, I can't see the problem of dogs being walked along the path AS LONG as the owners are responsible - same can be said for children!!!!!

Laws are only optional here, didn't you know?

Maybe the dogs can't read, bit like the drivers who can't understand the speed limits posted!

There was a Lapta Belediye ad on facebook which shows a policeman walking along the path, two people with bikes and two people with dogs lol!

A couple of weeks ago I saw a chap strimming the grass verge of the Lapta end of the coastal path and today a team cleared much of the obvious discarded rubbish - including a dead dog that had been dumped wrapped in a blanket!!!
Rubbish bins regularly emptied would be very welcome and would perhaps discourage the litter louts and bottle smashers.
This end is being used by many walkers and picnicers now and not just fishermen. Good to see the Beli taking an interest in what potentially will be a great leisure/tourist attraction.

Activity restarted over the weekend.
Much surveying and an approach has been cleared on the West side of the Silver Rocks bay and reinforced with rocks.
Today a lorry borne drill arrived presumably to put in some piles.
P'raps the aim is to finish for next Summer.
Off topic, why aren't there any Easter eggs in the shops?????? Only 367 shopping days to Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Work soon stopped on the bridge at the Lapta end.
The wire frames for two piles were cemented in but no work since the cold spell.
What has shot up is believed to be a walkway café. It is right next door to Silver Rocks on the sea's edge.
I shouldn't think Silver Rocks are too pleased. They will lose their uninterrupted sea view and I wonder how pleasing on the eye the bridge is going to be - not one of the 7 Wonders I imagine especially after a few years/storms
Now they appear to have lost any passing trade to this café which is right up close to their outside eating terrace.
Dog Walkers - at the moment there is about 30 yds of open ground/dirt track South of the walkway and open fields beyond that. So there is no need to go on the walkway itself although my dog does cross it to get to the sea. At the moment there is no one to upset anyway!!

Re the cafe next to Silver Rocks:- I was told that it belonged to Silver Rocks, presumably, if my info is correct, to interest walkers who do not wish to use either the bar or restaurant.

There is a little buffet stop on the walkway a nice man in there, we had a lovely cup of Nescafé 3tl he brought us a plate of biscuits and a plate of sliced orange no charge, you can get snacks and beer there also.

That sounds like Ziggi's Place. Lovely man, great place to stop for a coffee, fresh pressed orange juice, Turkish breakfast even, and yes, he always gives a snack, slice of orange or even a home made pastry! How he keeps going I really don't know but we always try to support him when there. He has tables and chairs out, umbrellas, and where in the world could you get a view like that for 3 - 5 tl? Great place to meet up for a chat with other walkers. Of course, Ziggi is always up for a chat also.
