Hi everyone this is the first forum I have ever joined, used to read Cyprus44 from the day it started until the day it ended. Live in the UK but have got a holiday home in Catalokoy which we have had for 6 years. Coming out again next Sunday woo hoo. My holiday reading for on the plane is The Green Line, cant wait to read it.

Hope I can manage to navigate this forum, please keep it simple for me.

Welcome Snowdrop. Safe journey out. Hope you enjoy The Green Line. I haven't heard anyone say it was anything other than great. I know Soner would welcome your feed back.

as to the forum being simple, Soner is designing it specially for idiots like me, so I can read it, contribute and enjoy. So hope you do too. Please contribute and if you are out here when Soner comes in July, you could meet him. He is hoping to arrange a get together and I am sure he will have many Green Line fans . Hope you become one of them.

Hi Marion thank you for the welcome, glad I am not the only one who finds it difficult to find my way round computers. Wish I was out to meet Soner in July but we find it too hot that time of year thats why we stick to April/May and September/October. Anyway at least I can post now with all my queries regarding North Cyprus.

Hi Gemini 39 nice to hear from you, we think Catalkoy is a great area to live as you are so central to go east or west of North Cyprus. We always hire a car from a great car hire company when we are over and sometimes just drive one way or the other to enjoy the scenery and visit the beaches, go the other way and your nearly in town. In the six years we have been coming over Catalkoy has sprouted new restaurants and shops so even if you dont have access to a car most of all you need is within walking distance. We are based near the seaside so have gorgeous views of the mountains where we can sit for hours and never get bored with the view, cant wait til Sunday til we go and get all the jobs done then enjoy!!!

Hello and WELCOME to all you newbies. This is going to be a great forum, so stick with us. For the swallows. I live in Ozankoy, right next to Catalkoy. I love North Cyprus, but personally, I prefer this end. Just a suggestion, don,t just stick to the main road, ie A to B in the car. Go for walks along the beautiful country lanes, wander around the villages and speak to the friendly villagers, embrace the culture, go to the local cypriot restaurants, try the food, I promise, you will enjoy. And don,t forget, if you need help or advice, you have friends on KIBKOM.

Nice one, Blue Butterfly. I can'/t comment on Catalkoy cos I live over the other side (as out West). Nealry bought at Catalkoy 10 years ago, but didn't. Lots of good things about over there, but also lots of good things our side. Not as many choices of shops, restaurants etc, but i am in town nearly every day, so it doesn't matter. But I cvan see the sea and the mountains, and ignore the concrete roofs in between which used to be donums of green grass and trees! things change here so quickly. I think it is good to come and rent and look around before deciding where you might really want to be.

Gemini39 we also live in Catalkoy, Northern Cyprus is a beautiful place to be which ever side you live on.

Northern Cyprus is a village and you should try and explore both sides, we are still finding new places and people are so friendly......

Enjoy

Hi Marions & Schoie

Good feedback thanks

Do the area where you live have barking dogs through the night ? Or is this a widespread prob. ?

We live seaside side of Catalkoy and it is so quiet touch wood....we do not hear anything at all. Our friends stayed and couldn't believe how quiet is was.......On saying that there are a lot of dogs around Northern Cyprus, so it will be different in other places we have been lucky so far . Never say never though.

You should be able to read it completely by the time you land. Soner would love feedback, so make sure you tell him your thoughts, or better still come to the get together in July and get him to sign it for you. (or both!)
Great book - everyone says so. Enjoy!

Sadly work gets in the way of our spending more time in the TRNC, so July is out for us...but we are back for 3 weeks in September!!

Just love the place - agree that the best way to get to know the place is get off the main roads and if driving try a back road....if it runs out just turn around and try a different route....but the best thing to do is just walk around your area - meet so many lovely people as well as finding great hidden restaurants and taverna's.

Actually Soner comes out pretty regularly, so you never know, one of your trips might coincide! i agree about the back roads. The real Cyprus, and I much prefger the 'ethnic' eating places to others. Prices are better, and it kinds feels right. But then I am a bit old fashioned! Hope you really enjoy your trip. And where in Devon do you hail from? we were in Somerset for a while.

We live on the Ozankoy / Catalkoy borders near what was the China garden and past the Saki Mehane ( Patina ).
It is difficult to find a good local Cypriot restaurant. Lots of other types but do like to try the LOCAL ones when we find one.

Marion

We live in a small village in East Devon near Axminster. In fact we are really only 1 mile across the county border. 30 mins from Exeter, 15 mins from Lyme Regis, 20 mins from Seaton, Beer. Nicer area. Work in Yeovil but would rather not have to!!

Hello to everyone, especially to mum, (blue butterfly).

Glad that I finally got round to joining.

I lived in the TRNC for about four years previously.

I am currently residing in Hong Kong but will hopefully return to the TRNC in the future.

Off to peruse the forums now and see what's happening.

Hello Moonbeam, [my lovely daughter] glad you took my advice and joined the best forum in North Cyprus. Mum always knows best

Soner, your wife will probably know it, where Moonbeam lives is a lovely peaceful island off the mainland Hong Kong. Lantau, it is very clean, almost car free, everyone rides a bicycle. And it has a beautiful bay with views over to Hong Kong, and a golden beach that is cleaned every day.

Hope to see lots of postings from you Moonbeamxx

Hi all,
We live in Malatya near Marion. A scenic area but not a drive for the faint hearted.

A question for Marion- Is the shop still open in the village?
