Besparmak road - be very very careful

Came back from the big supermarket (Erulkulu i think !) and decided to come over the Besparmak road as there were no cones closing it. All was fine until after we passed the roadworks with the man with the red flag. The road was coned closed to one lane - our lane was open - so nothing should have been coming down the closed lane. WRONG. Half way up and thundering around the corner coming towards us in our lane was a taxi.Well how he stopped i do not know. After some manouvering we managed to get past each other. Once the road opened into 2 lanes again we expected to see another man with red flag - no nothing. The road at the bottom (Aligadi turning) was closed to traffic going up - but people were ignoring it and just driving around the bollard cones and tape. The cars and lorries coming up were simply going into the only open lane. It was really scarey and we think we had a very lucky escape. We will be using the longer routes until it is all completed . Please be careful if you do have to go that way.

You don't get that in the UK, do you? Or Scotland!

What has the advice someone is giving in NC about a coned off road and the potential danger to others got to do with UK or Scotland?

Sounds like the road has gone back to how it was in early 2000 when we all used to drive on the bit of tarmac that was there and share it in both directions - keeps you on your toes!!!

Dalartokat, whenever an incident that shows how delightful it is to live here (like someone saying "Don't worry pay me tomorrow") we usually say "You don't get that in the UK, do you?" It happens a lot because life is freer and easier here. I understand that the original post was a serious one and my flippancy may have offended you. If it has I apologise.

By the way, you look lovely in your photograph!

Darlartokat and Frontalman, You are a great posting double act. Made me laugh with your responses and I think you both look lovely.

Sorry to break up what appears to be a blossoming romance-but does anyone know how long the road works are going on for as I am taking some friends to the airport next week?

Our Cyp friend who uses this road daily has checked with 'Highways'(?), who told him it's an ongoing project to repair this road all the way over the top and down the other side to the main road by the Army Camp.

Work expected to continue at whatever times they decide, but could stretch for weeks/months.

No way to find out in advance for tonight/tomorrow/next week!

We went past this morning about 8.30 and a taxi followed by 5 or 6 other cars drove straight up and bypassed all the cones - the guy supposed to control the traffic was going mental but couldn't stop them. Quite a few were hire cars, all going too fast.

Does anyone know if this road is now open? A friend said that the cones had gone yesterday. We're off to the airport early Monday morning and don't want to get all the way there to find out it's still closed.
Thanks

The cones are still there with the NO ENTRY sign today but no one stopping traffic from entering. The guy who was, probably got sooo frustrated with motorists ignoring his directions that he's got himself a job filling reservoirs with a bucket. Less frustration and more job satisfaction.

When I travelled the road in the direction of Esentepe a couple of weeks ago there was an extremely long stretch of it that appeared to have had the top surface skimmed. This may be an indication of time it will take before the road reopens. I didn't see any resurfacing vehicles / equipment anywhere about and there's a lot of road to resurface.
