Man travelling from Ercan caught smuggling 130 mobiles
Yesterday, a 30-year old man, travelling from Ercan, was caught at Gaziantep Airport trying to smuggle 130 mobile phones in the specially-made waistcoat shown below - the phones were estimated to have a market value of about 30 000 TL.

If they were made in China there is a chance that one might work ! Perhaps he was expecting a trunk call.

Apparently the man boarded the plane, then started switching the phones off or into flight mode. He was still doing that when the plane landed!

This is a classic case of "Security is only as good as the weakest link". Imagine if that had been a suicide bomber flying on Pegasus back to Stanstead via Turkey, blowing himself up over London during the Olympic Games. Frankly as a former security professional I am appalled at this breach of security, and a story like that in the world media is not going to do TRNC any favours either. I hope the authorities learn a lesson from this. Dreadful and extremely worrying.
