Has anybody had experience of air ambulances here
my mother in law many need to be air lifted back to the uk
no insurance we have been quoted 26 thousand pounds
does anybody have any thoughts

Ring Pru Lundie on 0392 822 2546. She is the BRS liaison officer (her speciality is the blood doner collection etc) but I she will know if such a thing exists and if what you have been quoted is feasible. I suppose it is absolutely essential the lady go back to the UK? Not prying.

It depends on her exact condition, what you have been quoted is not expensive in these matters and I have some experience. Cheapest way is get them certified to fly with a medic, Turkish Airlines and your doctor should be able to advise, hope all goes well.

These people can operate from Ercan although the way I read it not based there.

There is also an air ambulance that does operate from the South side.

Hi, we have recent experience of 'getting someone home' albeit on a scheduled flight... please pm me if we can be of any help.

My friend who was very ill with cancer and had breathing difficulties needed to get back to the UK. We got a member of her family to come out, collect her from hospital and got her via a taxi to British Airways at Larnaca. Wheelchair assistance was waiting and they had oxygen on the flight for her. She was picked up at Heathrow and taken straight to the nearest hospital. This cost about 1000 pounds but the ambulance in the UK was private and was paid for seperately.

Hope this helps. British Airways are marvellous when someone is ill. As long as you have a doctor's permission to travel they will take you.

Sue, your experience seems to me an exceedingly good suggestion if it's suitable to Carol. As you say it's all down to the Doctors here. Carol, you are in our thoughts and I do hope it all works out for the best. I guess this is yet another example of obtaining holiday insurance before coming out here. I'm sure an awful lot of people don't when they are coming to visit family and friends but automatically obtaining it when staying in a hotel.
