Hi can anyone recommend a good and reliable fixer of water pumps. Ours seems to be playing up, ie coming on every 30 seconds. We live in Catalköy, it is the pump that is connected to the house, pumps water up to our tank on roof.

If your pump is cutting in repeatedly this is an indication that your system is loosing pressure. The controller on top of your pump will switch the pump on to restore system pressure. The most common source of leaks are toilets. Easiest way to check the toilet is to isolate the water on each toilet then see if the pump has settled down. The leak could of course be a dripping tap, the safety valve on your hot tank on the roof, the air vent next to the safety valve. If you have an underground cold water tank you could have a problem with the foot valve on the bottom of the suction line. My system has an additional cold tank on the roof, that could overflow due to a faulty ballcock. Have a walk round your property and look for a leak. Also bear in mind that you could have more then one leak I.e. two iffy toilets.

Thornaby, what an excellent post mate! Full of information and help as would be expected from somebody from the North East. Nice to see on here and no mistake. This is the sort of post that can save lots of people lots of money and I would love to see a response to it no matter what the original problem was.

Your problem could also be the press control. One way valve not working correctly. If the front of your pump is getting hot it is your press control as the pump is being told to work and the water is going nowhere and friction is heating the water.

In my view the systems they have over here fancy fill valves with diaphragms and fancy flush valves that require a watertight seal are probably not the best for Cyprus.
Give me, anytime, a ballcock to fill and (the best of British) a syphon flush.
The ballcock is a lot more tolerante to the water conditions here.
The syphon flush does not depend on a water tight seal.
Old technology is sometimes the best.
Just thinking a little further, how much energy is lost through the island due to pumps unnecessarily kicking in??

Next town over mate - born in Middlesbrough but used your swimming baths as they were better than ours - lol. Long bike ride up the hills mind you but worth it!

Most problems here caused by the lime in the water but the old Por Çöz sorts out most of the problems if you keep you working parts and filters clean on a regular basis. I am with you on the old technology, everything worked well till progress hit the Island - lol.

Loads of energy lost through pumps kicking in because of leaks - sad really, they are easy to trace and fix even to a non plumber person like myself.

Pump started to kick in regularly. Main bathroom, WC.was the culprit
Build up of calcium on the rubber seal.
Quarter turn release of flush valve
Scraped away the calcium!!!!

I have a similar problem and have pinpointed it to the toilet. I replaced the internal fittings and it is still dripping. Water has been turned off at the pipe beside the toilet but still a drip, drip, drip....

All solutions welcome...
