Has your UK driving licence expired?

could be an expensive mistake if you have to drive in UK, this has been taken from Martin Lewis money tips:

You'll get a £1,000 fine if your licence photo has expired. Photocard licences need renewing every 10 yrs and more than 2m are out-of-date. There's a £1,000 fine if you're caught - so check the date printed on section 4b of your card now. Don't worry, you won't be fined for renewing late though, just if you're caught driving.

The Greek Cypriot officials at the crossing points are very hot at picking this up. I know a couple of people who were refused TOM certificates because the photo had expired on their licences, so they were unable to drive in the South.
If you have had a new passport recently the licence can be renewed on line without sending a photo.

Simply present your TRNC drivers licence to the policeman and play dumb. How many drivers in the UK are on a foreign drivers licence, do you think?

My husband still has his old pink paper one, never got it changed and he's been out of the country for 16 years or so. Is it still valid?

I still have the paper one and it is accepted for car hire purposes in UK and abroad but I always carry my TC one too.

The purpose of the posting was to remind people that the photo card ones are only valid for 10 years - I guess that a lot of expats in TRNC may have these and 'forget' that they need to be renewed. I didn't realise that there was a £1000 fine for driving in UK with an expired photo card licence so I thought maybe others didn't know that either.
