240 to 12 volt

I am looking for a transformer from a 240 volt AC ( normal house electric ) to a 12 volt AC pool light.
The current transformer(s) in my pool pump room are 220 Volt 300 watts 50 Hz input and 12 Volt output.
Can anyone advise?
My apologies if this is a stupid question. I am not an electrician. I just want to try and use an old pool light ( 12 Volt AC LED ) in the garden! I think the LED bit may be the problem as it uses ten times less than non LED.
Thanks

The output from your present transformer is A/C, whereas it seems you need DC for your light.
You can buy a rectifier in Presstechnic in Alsancak which if you connect to the existing transformer will convert the A/C output to DC and will hopefully run your LED light

Hi Pete,
The light has AC printed on it.
Also, I want to run the light, not from my existing transformer, but a new location. I have an outside power supply.
A friend has said all I need is a simple transformer than will take a 240 volt down to 12 volt.
Thanks

Butterfly a way, I changed my pool lights to l.e.d.ones (energy efficient).
Used existing transformer, no rectifier rqd.
Led lights use very little power.
The transformer in your pump room was rated for halogen lights, the led lamps only use around 10 watts.
Are you sure the lamp you have is led and not halogen.
A problem you may have using a pool light in your garden is keeping the electrical connection on the lamp dry.
The transformer itself should be house in a ip55 enclosure box.
Personally, I would purchase some dedicated outside garden lighting, avoiding the solar rubbish

Hi Thornaby,
Yes, the light that I want to use in the garden is an automatic colour changing LED one, not the halogen type. One of my two new pool LED's is new and the sequence in which they change colour is not synchronised, so I have one spare, which is too expensive to throw away at €130.
No problem with the IP55, but can I use any 240 to 12 volt transformer? I can always use a pool lighting housing kit for a few pounds, to keep the cabling dry!
There are some new remote controlled colour changing pool lights available, but the cost against the guarantee offered makes it prohibitive.

Hi butterflyaway
A standard 240 to 12 volt transformer should be OK.
With the lamp being outside the connection will have so survive the bad weather.
I would call in an electric shop such as the one behind the Pia Bella, show him what you have got(not the best way of putting that) and get his advice.
