A big thank you to an honest person

Thank you to the person that drove into my car last.night outside the red lion in Alsancak and then drove off leaving me with 500tl of damage. It would of been so easy for your insurance to pay and I may of bought you a beer for being honest.

That's assuming they had insurance in the first place. Its frightening when you discover just how many people don't.

We have also had a similar incident when we parked our car in the side road opposite the Red Lion. Someone not only damaged the back bumper but also managed to damage both doors and sill. It looked as if the car had been hit twice to cause the damage. We had to make an insurance claim on our own policy and will have lost our no claims.

This might sound a bit daft, but is there someone living near the Red Lion that has a "downer" on the place for some reason?

Looks that way doesn't it. I must admit our experience here over the years is that people respect the value of cars and are careful when and where they park, open doors, etc. I am more wary of hire cars than I am of cars with normal TC plates.

My wife misread (I think) your thread in that she thought somebody had hit your car and anonymously left you 500tl to pay for the repair... but I read it that they left only you with the 500tl's worth of damage and no money - which is right?

It would be lovely to think your wife is correct, but sadly I suspect she isn't in this case (I'm sure she is right at all other times though!!).

We have been driven into on two occasions when parked perfectly properly in restaurant car parks - where there was plenty of room for cars to manouevre without hitting anyone else. These people must be aware that they have damaged the car they hit but just don't care. We too have lost our "no claims bonus" and really feel we don't want to go out anywhere that we have to park in a car park in the evening.

I do not know if anyone has noticed but there are an awful lot of large trucks and last night I saw one going down the little road opposite the Red Lion but it could not make the turn because of cars parked outside the Red Lion so it had to reverse all the way back to the opening opposite İleli supermarket. Maybe other truck drivers were not so considerate. As the roadworks are still going on I would advise people not to park outside there for now.

Don`t go thinking it`s just Turks or TC`s who do things like this. Was in Girne car park in July and a *respectable* English lady hit the back end of a car whilst attempting to park, causing considerable damage to the bumper, but fortunately for her, hardly any damage to her Toyota LandCruiser. When I told her what she had done, she denied it because, quote, *I never felt a thing* unquote!!! Also told me to mind my own business! Lovely lady.

We're all putting our four pennyworth on this thread, but I wonder how the initial contributor is feeling now?

Maybe you could have left a note of the car reg make and driver description on the window of the damaged vehicle with contact details so that the victim could take action.... Use your mobile to photograph the car/driver?

When you go out at night - take a taxi! Its easy, costs less than your no claims and means you can have a drink as well. I know that will not sit well with some but think about it. In the day time, always try to park away from where the "Must be at the front of the que" drivers park and where nobody trying to get a quick get away can do it anyway! Think before you park and walk the extra 50 mtrs, good for your health and good for your car as well. Don't park anywhere near a trolley park!!!!!

Absolutely Waddo, over the last couple of years, we've had two really quite bad scratches from Supermarket trolleys (people trying to squeeze between cars) Didn't catch either of them, but the scratches matched the height of trolley exactly. Didn't claim though, as we would have lost our no claims. Sickening all the same.
