Information - Electricity Connection

Yesterday I went to Kibtec to pay for them to come and install a new metre as we've been on temporary electric for a few years

Fearing the worse and into the unknown we walked into a rather warm and busy building but were pleased to see how helpful and pleasant they were

The requirements: Copy of our contract with the signature and stamps on it, copy of passport and a payment of 595 tl.

We also put some money on our account. They had the paperwork from our builder with all the relevant information and in fairness the builder had done his bit also to make it easier

so is the 595 payment just for the name change or is some of that for a deposit ?

Andrew, I believe that is for the new meter and the deposit together as we do not have one, the builder has included the electricity used in the project cost on the site including the substation

This is the first time we have registered because we have been on builders electric so the cost was not as bad as we were expecting

did you have to have a detail drawing of the electric layout as well to show kibtec. i am considering doing the same thing as yourself. i am looking after a property for a friend but he is out of the country, i have all the relevent docs but no rental agreement as i am just looking after the place for him, would this cause a problem. cheers Osprey fan

We also paid a deposit for our meter which was all part of having the service transferred across into our name when we purchased our property last year. We did not make any advance deposit for the actual electricity supply, but have set up payment via our bank as we are not permanent residents and did not want to arrive to find the electric cut off!. Whilst we were a little concerned that the bank payments would not actually work, we are pleased to say that for the last 4 months this has worked perfectly. Same goes for the water.

Our advocate made all the necessary arrangements and advised to keep the Kibtec meter receipt safe so if we sold the property we could reclaim back our deposit.

It was a very simple and straightforward process.

Billywiz, an Ospreys fan, what a shame

Kibtec has all the site drawings and specifications because they had built a substation on our site, the builders had done a lot of work getting everything connected to the properties and Kibtec came back to inspect and give their stamp of approval

Kibtec were very particular with the required documentation and proffs, we had a copy of our contract with the builder but not the stamped and signed version so we had to go to our Solicitor for a photocopy and went back to finish off 30 minutes later. They asked for my passport as proof also. Hope this helps

Poshindevon, how does you bank know what to pay? Does the bill go through to the bank or do you go online to find out what the bill is and then inform your bank? Looking for an easy way to keep everything rolling without being cut off

Scarlets, I do the same and have my bank pay all the bills elect, water etc.. You just instruct them then they contact the relevant parties and the bills are sent to the bank (electronic) who pay out o your account. VEry simple proceedure, no form filling or anything, just instruct the counter staff and they sort everything out. But make sure you have a lump sum in the account to cover the periods you are away.

Looking forward to a Kibkom BBQ end of July

Yes, happened to me when I first built property, returned after a few months at night and guess what - no electricity. Had to pay fine and run around to get reconnected - what a nightmare. Do not fall in this trap - get your bills paid by your bank. Same goes for Telephone - been disconnected for 3 years now because I can not be bothered to do all that silly running around.

Scarlets, I leave Cyprus on 20th July so will not be able to meet up .. what a shame.

Just to let you know Kibtec have been around and connected us this morning, it took 30 minutes. Very good bearing in mind we only went in Monday lunchtime to sort out and pay. Now we are to pay a reasonable price if thaere is such a thing here

taking a bill to your bank is enough to set up direct debit.Be electric, water, telephone, all the while you have enough sums in your acc. they'd pay on your behalf.

Our advocate arranged for the electric, water and equivalent of council tax to be transferred across to our name from the date of completion of the sale. We had to take old copies of the electric and water bills with the account details/property address indicated along to the bank. Bank then set everything up with each of the providers. Bank receives details of the charges and they pay the provider direct. We go on line to our bank and check every month what the charges are. Our only query with the bank was matching the 3 x reference numbers to each of the 3 x providers. Bank explained what reference number was linked to what service (Electric/Water/Council tax) and now its simples!

Our concern was that the setting up/payment would not work for some reason - but so far after 3 months no problems.

We did it for peace of mind as we did not want to risk arriving late at night to find something had been cut off. Plus I believe there is a fine for late/non payment and the inconvenience of having to run around to get it sorted out.

We keep our account topped up each time we visit so there is always enough to pay the bills as they land. So far so good.
