Report the loss to KAR office and then if anyone phones in saying they have seen one wandering about, they can get in touch with your neighbour.

Can you give a description of the dog i.e. what colour, what sex, is it wearing a collar, has it been micro-chipped. If not, then it ought to be.

This is going to be controversial but here goes.....

Why do people with such small dogs ( this may well be a genuine escape so does not apply) let them out onto the street?!!!!!!

I have never seen anything like it!

I've seen all manner of small breeds laying in the road, wandering around with no collar....clearly lap dogs who are vulnerable and need to be at home....OMG. What's wrong with these people?

If you have a very small dog, keep it inside or in a confined and secure space outside IN THE SHADE, for the safety of the little thing SURELY?????

JD, with you all the way on this one. I have 4 lap dogs - all rescued from KAR (not quite as small as chihuahuas) They are never ever let out of the garden without a lead, we spent time and not a lot of money making the garden little dog proof (and big dog for that matter). Chihuahus are very brave feisty little blighters and don't need to be carried around all the time as some people think, but you do need to keep an eye on them. They don't need to be kept inside, but they DO NEED TO BE KEPT SAFE.

Apologies to Eastern you did say "he", but I didn't notice.

I hear you guys but as I said in my post it is my neighbours daughters doggy that had gone missing, I'm just trying to help, as far as I know the dog was in the garden and escaped maybe when the workman came in and the gate was left open, the dog is black and cream in colour and of chihuahua breed...
Dogs can accidentally go missing does not mean the owners left it wondering around on their own, I just hope they find him and thank you all for your responses!

Got two toy poodle lap dogs. can be bad b******s when they like, but unlike yourself it cost me a nice few quid to sheepwire one and half acre garden to keep them safe, but when you get dogs it is your responsibility to keep them safe.

We have put in additional chicken wire under hedges, built wooden fences, added extra iron gates 0 all to keep our animals safe. One of the best things we have done and would advise others to do is to fit combination locks on all gates. No keys involved so no hassle but no workmen or other people able to come in or out of your property and leave gates open so therefore no beloved pets getting out.

I believe the dog has now been reunited with its owner, found on the crusader road. If someone could confirm that would be great.

It is impossible to make workmen close gates, and sometimes they have to be left open for carrying large heavy items. As well as fencing the garden itself, I have had a (very large) area enclosed with a third roofed. Although normally the dogs have freedom of house and garden, it is invaluable to keep them safe for an hour or two when there are workmen, and also useful for the occasional visitor who is frightened of their friendly overtures, or am serving food outside and dont want to tempt them to steal food or beg at table - they sit there patiently watching and looking cute and somehow quite a few titbits get passed through the wire and of course there are always bowls of water! Basically mostly chicken wire , with an arch over the gateway , all covered with quick growing climbing plants it actually makes a feature in the garden.
