Desparate to get on to a helpline with Amazon
We are anxious to actually speak to a person regarding sending an Apple iPad Air back to Amazon UK which has died a death after 3 weeks use. We've been on to endless web sites making endless suggestions for repair (non of which work). What has happened is that all the sensors beneath the plastic screen appear to have died, consequently nothing that involves touching the screen works. We need to explain this to someone. We've tried without fail and can't even remove passwords etc. We've tried to fill in Amazin questionaires but they ask for location (they don't appear to recognize our phone number and only accept RoC phone numbers) The ipad was paid for in UK, delivered to a UK address and then brought over here. Trying tell that lot to an Amazon PC in the UK. Any help would be gratefully received, if not the bloody thing is going to chucked into the ravine, having been smashed by a brick first.

There is a facility on the Amazon website where you can type a question and one of their customer service people type a response almost immediately. I found this very helpful when I had a Kindle problem as they explained what to do to resolve it.

I wish that worked Ipman, but unfortunately nothing does, we think we're doing find until it asks you to do anything that involves touching or sliding anything on the screen and then it all goes pear shaped.

Why can't you ask the person at the UK address to do all the enquiries for you in the UK and then send it back to the UK and get them to deal with it as if it were theirs. Or is there no one on the South side that can help you, just a thought.

Re: Desparate to get on to a helpline with Amazon
Thanks everyone, but nothing seems to work i.e. unlock it, we've been on to every helpline, Apple forums etc we can find and even the Amazon assistance was no good. The general consensus of opinion is that the iPad Air is a deceased iPad Air after 3 weeks use. Amazon would only reply to a R0C phone number and it all got so complicated I just gave up the ghost. We are going to try and get it back to UK together with all the reams of paper work involved. I know I'm in the minority, but I don't like Amazon shopping, its fine until something go wrong it seems. Probably OK if you are in UK.

Re: Desparate to get on to a helpline with Amazon
I have several electronic devices bought from Amazon.co.uk and brought out here. I use the Amazon.co.uk CHAT facility and speak to someone immediately.
Do you have an Amazon account? If not, set one up. Log into your account. Click on Your Account. Go to the bottom of the page and click on HELP. Click on NEED MORE HELP then click on CONTACT US. You can then click on your order and go to CHAT.
I have used this several times, from here, and they are very helpful.
Amazon has never queried a lost or broken device I have bought from them so I would urge you to try this. If you have any problems, leave a msg on here and I will check back.

carrierbag, will have a go, but beginning to lose the will to live with this one. I think EVERYONE agrees the iPad is defunct and beyond repair and yes Hubby does have an account. Sadly we're not that savvy with this sort of thing.

Have you tried contacting Apple support? You should get a one year warranty from Apple from the date of purchase whether bought direct from them or not, also 30 days phone support, so you should be covered. If you can get online try getsupport.apple.com

Thanks carrierbag, your instructions worked perfectly. Spoke to a terrific guy at Amazon via Skype. He immediately called us back on my mobile and we talked for well over half an hour (after he was sure we were not on roaming fee). After getting our account up on his screen and listened to all that we had done to try and rectify the problem, it was agreed that for reasons not known we had a rubbish ipad. We have to post it back using what passes for registered mail in the TRNC and they will refund the cost of postage immediately. (provided we Email them a copy showing date, place and cost) We will then get a refund for the iPad within 2 weeks and we can order another one or not, our choice. William (the Amazon guy) was what every tele-person should be, particularly when he found out what we pay for Sapphire Blue Gin (his favourite tipple), I thought he was going to jump on the first plane out here!!

So pleased you persevered with Amazon because we have had a few problems and they were so good at sorting them out and as previously mentioned with some items (obviously not the costly ones) they have just sent another order out to us free of charge!

sophie.
Make sure you have a copy of registered post, I had the same problem when I was in Turkey.
If you were in the UK they would collect the Item and it would be recorded by the company that collects.
When you send it back it is not recorded and problems pop up.
In the end I had to scam and attach the reciept as they could not find my return in the system.
It all worked out in the end and they sent a replacement Kindle to a friend in the UK who brought it out to Cyprus.

Re: Desparate to get on to a helpline with Amazon
Thanks karmels, William (Amazon) assured us that provided we email a copy of receipt of what is referred to as registered post here with date, place and charge on it they would refund postage. I explained that we couldn't track registered post in the normal way and it would probably take 10 days or so. Hope all goes well because the package i.e. ipad Air, leather cover and stylus were not cheap. I had to return my Kindle Fire (taken to UK for collection earlier this year) because of a faulty component, and that worked OK but in that case they would only replace it, not refund money, which was fine with me.

Hi if you go over the other side would recommend posting from there. There is a small post office just over the Metehan border & also one on Ledra Street just a couple of minutes walk from the crossing.

Good idea ozankoys - might use the walk across and go to the main PO (save me 25Euro insurance) Any problems filling in forms etc., will they want address? Is registered post the other side trackable do you think?

Sophie, so glad you spoke with Amazon. I have always found them to be helpful and professional...never questioning that a device has broken or was lost.
Suggest you send it back DHL as it will definitely arrive then.
