Maybe that's why they are not asking for Esentepe - most of the locals came from the Paphos region...

Groucho, an interesting book titled "Foundation of Turkish Cypriot Postal Administration" (currently in Turkish but will be published in English next year) gives loads of facts about village names, who lived there and what they are now called is in print. For instance:
"Before 20 July 1974, Ayios Epiktitos was a village with all its inhabitants Greek Cypriots. The village went into the control of the Turkish troops in the first day of the Second Peace Operation. All Greeks had evacuated their houses and migrated to South Cyprus and Turkish Cypriots of Limassol area who took shelter in the British Sovereign Base plus the villagers of Duzkaya (Evdim) were settled in the empty houses. The village was renamed Catalkoy after 1976. The Turkish Cypriots from the big village Esentepe (Aynikola) of Paphos were settled in the empty houses of Aykurus in mid 1975 and that village was renamed Esentepe aft 1976.

The Island is full of history both ancient and modern - wonderful place with a sad past.

Agios Andronikos in the Karpas peninsula is now called Yesilkoy (the Green Village). The only reaso I know that is because my father was born there in 1936.

There is a tiny ruined Greek church behind Ani restaurant in Catalkoy flowers are left there quite often.

My mate wants to know if he can have his airport!

And the Eu2billion compensation in,line with the CG's [failed] claim lodged in the US.

Maybe this could be their new National Anthem?

dodger, I will ask the author for you tomorrow, I know the Turkish version is out on sale but the English version is still on my DVD blanks waiting to go back to the owner and then the press. It would have been out by now if my PC had not suffered a total crash!!!
