Can you apply to renew in advance or do you wait until they expire does anyone know please?

We were told that you can renew up to 30 days in advance of the expiry date .... so we did. When we eventually managed to collect our new licences, (they were not ready until after the original expiry date), the new licences were dated from the date of renewal application and not from the original licence expiry date, so we 'lost' a month. Next time we'll wait until a few days before the expiry date. As long as you have a photocopy of your licence and the receipt for the renewal, there should be no problem if you get stopped by the police.

Thanks for the tip, will leave until just before expiry date then.
