Funky Divas, next to Acdinc computer shop in Karakum, in the same parade of shops as The Stroll Inn.
Naci is an expert colourist, UK trained, and she would sooner die than let your hair burn
'Phone number for appointments is 0542 851 4162.

If you look under the hair and Beauty section above there is a long thread of recommended hairdressers. After a recommendation on there I now go to Bonitas in Girne, English hairdresser who has been on the island over 20 years. Fab cut and blow dry and I will go to her for hair colour early next year.

Been going to Hair Bonita for about 9 years and never a problem, opposite Teacher's Hotel in Karakum.

There are those who often admir emy hair. This is due to the care and expertise of bonita (as mentioned twice here). Why not give her a try, and even try the others recommended, then you can find one that suit syou bes.t plus of course it is a matter of geography. (although I am happy to travel 13kms to go to Bonita, whilst I acknowledge there are good new ones in the Alsancak area, but I believe in loyalty)

I would highly recommend Chicago opposite Lemar at Karaoglanoglu. They are very professional and as one of their original customers I have never been disappointed. English spoken. They also have a nail bar.

I second funky divas by Stroll Inn. Been going for a number of years now, it used to be Cutting Rooms. Naj is excellent......and I am very fussy about my hair!!! Naj is an excellent colourist too, and they have a nail bar. Plus, she can put a bit of bright colour in your hair too.......which I like.

Bluedream - I should have mentioned before that I can recommend them for Cutting, Colouring, Styling, Treatments and offering good advice without high pressure sales for hair products. Hasan Bay is from Chicago and he has a very professional team working for him. Open 7 days a week, Sundays 13.00 onwards.
Give Chicago a try - you will enjoy the experience.

Chicago is amazing. Hassan always cuts my hair beautifully. It is the best I have ever had. Manicures and pedicures are also excellent. I highly recommend this salon.

Velena by HSBC bank Girne is brill for colouring. Taner doesn't speak English but the owner does and interprets for you.
If you want brilliant cuts he's good too but Mustafa at Image salon is amazing. Not much English but he seems to understand and always does what I want. Will cut very short unless you tell him or show hime the length you want to keep. He is along the right road before the Wednesday market. Drive rt past the power station along to Starling and he is opposite. Tried all the others mentioned and not impressed at all.None of them are good at cutting and weight reduction. I always look as tho I am wearing a tea cosy on my head as they leave it far too thick. Beware. The only ones who coloured my hair well were Velena.

I have used Nultens for several years, never had a bad experience, very professional. Nulten has a hairdressing academy, where they are trained to professional standards. The salon is now only in Alsancak, used to have one in Girne.

If you want a great haircut done by an expert then go to Chicago and have Hassan do it. You won't be disappointed. He is an absolute star. He did the best haircut for me in over 40 years. And I used to work for Vidal Sassoon !!!! Much better than those days. He makes so much attention to detail and anyone who can do such a brilliant job with my very fine thin hair is a star in my eyes. But then each to his own. Just try them !!!!!!

Ladies - does 3000 TL sound about the average price for highlights (bleach), fine hair, shoulder length?
Cut & blow dry as well but I was a bit shocked to pay that the other day!

Sounds a bit much to me but with the minimum wage increase, who knows. I pay just over 1,000 tl for colour, cut and blow dry. Might be more next time, but 3,000 ouch!!

It may well depend on the products they use, anything beauty related as gone through the roof that salons or nail salons have to purchase. I was having the discussion with my nail lady the other day and was shocked to learn how much more she has to pay plus increase in tax and sigorta. It's ludicrous how the tax is worked out.

Does any of the salons recommended above specialise or at least have great experience cutting wavy hair? I recently got a maintenance cut here in north Cyprus (first time cutting outside of my country) and was disappointed — there wasn’t any disaster and my wallet didn’t cry tears of blood, but I’d love to avoid repeating the experience when I (re)grow the guts to try again.
