Like everyone else I guess, I've had a message from Skype saying that as from January next year, VAT will be based on the EU country that we are registered in. As we're based in Cyprus (Alsancak) I suppose we will have to pay the VAT applicable down south (Unless anyone knows better??)

Change your Skype address to Mersin 10, Turkey. you are now outside the European Union

mitsybrian, It is your billing address that will decide which country you pay the VAT to and if you pay - like me - an annual fee from a UK Debit/Credit Card then the billing address is one in UK! That means that Skype will now charge me VAT based on the UK rate - try to find the VAT rate for communications, go on you have the rest of your life to try to locate it - @ 20% instead of the 15% that is charged at the moment. However, if you pay as you - so to speak - and pay with a Credit Card from lets say Credit West - then you can change your address to one outside the EU, not sure yet how that will affect your Skype account but trying to find out.

I just pay 20GBP when it gets down to about 5GBP but that's with a UK credit or debit card, so I guess there will be no option other than to pay UK VAT. If the Mersin 10 bit worked then I would use it, but I suspect waddo is correct.

I use my TRNC address & a credit card to pay my Skype & have never paid VAT.
