If I had not been out on my balcony upstairs hanging a towel on the airer I would never have been aware of the dog in the neighbours half empty swimming pool. Anyway the dog saw me and started to cry - I dashed downstairs, told hubby and went to get her out. She must have been maddened by thirst to want to get in and drink the filthy, green water in the pool.
Downside for hubby, I gave it 3 Bratworst, - Upside, our friends phoned and invited us for lunch so no real harm done.
Please, please, if there are empty or partially empty swimming pools near you - just have a quick look, these animals have no chance of getting out on their own.
This is the third dog we have rescued from the same swimming pool in last 9 months.

yes well done just as well you saw the problem as swimming pools are not the sort of thing that you can keep secure so that they cannot get in

I would advise anyone facing this scenario to stick a plank or an old garden chair etc in at the shallow end, so that they can climb out.
Don't just leave it as it is, because if you do, the same thing will keep happening.

Thanks for that tip Keithcaley, we will do that because are going to the UK and I was fretting about it because no-one would ever see a dog in this pool, no-one else lives up here.
I just wish that everyone could put a bowl/bucket of water outside their gates so that wild dogs could get a drink, then they might not have to get into swimming pools.
I am just so saddened by their plight, especially in this very hot weather.

It strikes a particular chord with me, as one of my cats drowned in a farmer's water storage tank (those huge concrete things) where the level was about 2 feet below the rim...
She was probably chasing Geckos when she fell in
