"The Police think there are 2 of them"

I wonder, there were 2 some time back with a granny, I understand she is no longer here.

On Tuesday evening approx. 7.30pm, I saw a man with a dog going into one of our neighbours garden, (we are in Karsiyaka), me and the wife thought it was another neighbour visiting. However, it turned out it wasn't. Nothing happened as my neighbours were at home and nobody knocked their door. We are now being more observant and have each others phone numbers to contact one another if we see any thing.

A young Cpriot man called at my house in Lapta on Wednesday (car was in the drive but gate open) and was selling childrens colouring books for the children's charity. I gave him a donation and he gave me an official receipt so perhaps the 2 young men are not connected?

This Charity does exist on Google, can a Turkish speaker contact them, to see if they are collecting like this, in the area. Appears to be based in Istanbul.

Fairly well dressed about mid 20's-30 black jacket was on his phone as well. Flat sneakers on,stubble, black hair combed back, got a short sharp no from me,looked well Dodgie to me.

OwlLady, I am with you find out the name of the charities they are suppose to be collecting for and give them a call before donating, If they are legitimate they will not have a problem with waiting whilst you call for confirmation. Then post the outcome on here for everyones reference. With all the fake collections in the UK I think it makes us very wary now especially when they are knocking on doors.

RAZR63, I'm intrigued, why did you ask regarding the type of dog ?

The 2 with the granny, (who is no longer with us) used to live in Karsiyaka, not sure if they are still around.

No doubt, most expats will be buying Xmas presents, which makes us good targets at this time of year.

Had an apparently mildly disabled lad chat to me at the gate in Alsancak a few weeks ago collecting for a charity in Lapta, disabled children. He showed me ID and a receipt book but I told him I do my giving through people I know directly connected to organisations like SOS, Tulips etc.

Two days ago I found a smartly dressed young man carrying what looked like a bag of shopping coming in my garden gate. When I challenged him he said hopefully 'home' to which I replied my home not yours and he smiled and went on his way! Was out all morning yesterday but popped home lunchtime before dashing out again, as I left I noticed the police parked up opposite so maybe they had had a report of people loitering. Have pretty alert neighbours but not so many around at the moment so will be extra vigilant and report anything else I notice.

Are these unwanted callers wandering into peoples garden if there is a dog(s) around?

Yes our dog is only young but normally he is a good deferent , but he let a young man into our garden as well. The man said he was looking to rent a place because his rental had been sold. We have informed the police but we are waiting to see what happens.

Has anyone actually had anything stolen yet? Seems to be a lot of conjecture without any proof that these people are up to no good. I agree it is disturbing to have strangers trespassing on our properties, and my dogs would see them off, but they must be the world's worst burglars going by the success rate quoted on here.

If they are looking for unoccupied properties, we may not find out about their successes until the 'Swallows' return, next year ...

Frontalman not speculation at all. This is fact! Our neighbour who Griif1954 refers to had an intruder in her bedroom who threatened her when she returned home at lunchtime. This is not a post to frighten people but to make you aware it has actually happened and we wouldn't want anyone else to experience the same, it has shaken me and made me more cautious of my actions so I hope others will be vigilant.

Had a young man call at approx. 13.15 today in Ozankoy (up the hill from Tropicana). He had ID and was showing a "catalogue" of items to purchase for disabled children....... May be unconnected but just to make you aware.

Out of the corner of my eye from my kitchen window I observed a man walking out of my property.

My husband eventually caught up with him and questioned him - to which he said he was looking for somewhere to rent and that no one was about at the property, which was not true.

Nothing more could be done.

He was about early 20's - wearing red corduroy trousers - about 5' 9". This was in Catalkoy.

Saw the red trousered young man wandering our road (back of Hos Bes supermarket) earlier. I asked what he was doing here..he replied looking for a home. I told him people were not happy that he was wandering around the area and have reported him to the police. I said that he should not look for a home in this manner...he wandered off. I did speak to Lapta police who put me in touch with Kamal at Green Garden Centre.

Not many neighbours around right now. A bit concerned.

In November we had a really lovely young guy come round to all our houses with badge and receipt book collecting for disabled children. Lapta Belediyesi badge. So must have been genuine. But only gave him 10tl as that was all I had on me at time. He insisted I had a lovely childs colouring book which I gave to my Grand Daughter in England. More than happy as I did not expect anything. He did return some time later again but told him he had already been so he went on his way. Sure he was genuine. One night there was a car parked outside an empty neighbours house. I went outside and he drove off. A little later he was there again so my Husband went to speak to him. He said car was overheating and drove off. As we are well off main road very suspicious. But sure that was not connected. However we will be alert.

Have the Police had any success yet with these suspects. We had 2 guys down our street the other day, I was not at home but our neighbours confronted them.

May be a good idea for everyone to say which areas these men are seen in, that way it may be possible to focus in and around that area.

Some of these posts mention a car, has anyone taken the registration number? I'm sure the police would check it out.
