Have you got a VPN? You will probably find that you need a UK internet connection (but I may be wrong)..

Just bought a android tv box here in UK which I am bringing to Cyprus to try when we return in January. I found that to set up to the internet via a Ethernet cable is a nightmare, but if you use Wi Fi it should work without any further set up after you connect with your Wi Fi password, which is found on your router. Now able to watch a vast collection of Movies, Sky Sports, BT, Sports etc, very impressive and well worth the money.

Yes, it work OK in the UK, because you have a UK internet connection. You may find that it won't work here unless you have a VPN that has a UK connection. I believe that Multimax provide this with their routers, unfortunately mine doesn't and I pay extra for it.

An Android TV box does not require a VPN, it is actually easier to use an Ethernet cable plugged straight in to the router, you have to go to settings and turn off wireless to use the cable, if using wireless go to settings find your network and type in your password, once password typed in push the back button to get out of that screen otherwise it will just keep repeating the same screen, also go to XBMC help to get the latest updates. I have one and it works fine

We don't know whether muppet has XBMC installed, and he hasn't said what his problem is.
Has he plugged it into the mains?
Has he plugged it into the TV?
Without more information on the nature of the issue, it's pointless offering advice.
Incidentally, an android box will require a VPN to perform any task that would require a VPN on a PC...

Keithcaley,
the way XBMC works you do not require a VPN for UK TV you use Filmon, for sports there is a lot of different links as well as films etc, android Boxes use XBMC.

Just click on to xbmc once you are connected to the Internet . Depending what box you have there will be a android wizard in Xbmc run that and it will bring up your apps to connected to your channels can take a while to download all the channels only need a vpn for I player and I itv plenty of ways to get UK TV with out a vpn.
The wizard is normally in a folder called video add ons but what type of box you have will depend where it is.

jock,
We don't even know whether muppet has got the android box connected to the TV properly yet!
Jimm - I know that you don't need a VPN for Filmon - either on an android box, or on a PC.
You do need a VPN to access BBC iPlayer, or ITV Player, or Channel 4 website, etc, etc.
When you say 'Android boxes use XBMC', it's a bit of a blanket statement, because not ALL android boxes use XBMC, you can install XBMC on virtually any android device. I am aware that there are some 'TV boxes' marketed with XBMC pre-installed, for a premium price, but we have no idea if that is what muppet has purchased.
I have also installed XBMC on a laptop, and a pal successfully runs it on a Raspberry Pi, it's not just an android thing...
muppet! - If you don't provide some details of exactly what you have got, how it is connected, and the nature of the difficulty that you are experiencing, then NO ONE will be able to offer any meaningful advice!

If I was you I would connect hdmi to TV and if you have optical line conect that to sound bar . I have found connecting to sound bars there can be a lag in sound as xbmc is not compatible with a lot of the the sound bars out there.
http://forum.android-stick.nl/ will give you a lot information about it . Mine is a droid box so not that clued up on your one but would imagine they all run the same way

Hi Kavenkoy,
"Anybody know any good apps for movies or sports link etc worth keeping" ......
Top Five XBMC Add-Ons for Watching TV
http://mkvxstream.blogspot.com/2013/04/ ... ching.html
or
From XBMC
Select Video, then Add ons,
look for
Go TV. for TV episodes, on demand.
Go Movies for Movies on Demand
Cliq! for live streams, sports etc, keep following the live links
If there are HD & SD options, go for the SD options to start with,
if the 1st selection doesn't work, try the next link until you find one that does.
There are many other options, but I've used those apps above today, and they will work.
XBMC will be renamed to Kodi. Info

For those online, or with a laptop connected to their TV,
try

I have an Android XBMC that has stopped working. We didn't use it for a few months and when I reconnected it, it says that my TV listings information is low and asks if I want to up-date. As there are no programmes showing, I check the Yes box and it starts to download but after a couple of seconds, it stops - anyone have any idea how a non technical person like me (my son originally set it up for me) can fix it?

Some few weeks ago when I was having problems with computer, iPad, Kindle etc, someone suggested that the Mods should set up a separate Section for PC AND OTHER COMPUTER PROBLEMS. I consider the problem that Muppet has experienced comes under the same definition, so again, could the Mods please open up a separate heading. That way, we complete innocents and those that like to assist (or sadly in some cases, just show off and make others look stupid) can do the whatever. Those people who know everything there is to know about everything, can just go away, but those like Keith Caley who genuinely are out to help, can do so. Thank you.

Try an app called Showbox for movies and american tv series - Deos not need XBMC and is therefore very easy to set up

The problem with these kind of android boxes is keeping them up to date. Buying one from new , everything will probably work fine. The issue is what happens when the apps need an update (bbc iplayer, itv player etc) and when XMBC needs an update and when the plugins from XMBC need an update or when the android version itself needs an update. Depending on the box and the support given to it keeping everything up to date and working can range from trivial to near impossible and even impossible. The other thing to understand is that XMBC is simply an interface to other third party video sources. These sources themselves come and go and the 'plugins' that XMBC uses to interface to them are typically written by individuals and their support for the plug in can come and go.
Even keeping official google play store applications like BBC iplayer working on an officially 'play store supported' device like a samsung tablet can at times be challenging. When using a 'generic' android device, that is not officially supported by 'play store' and you use third party apps like XMBC that themselves use plug ins from third party sources things get even more complicated.

To update your XBMC apps.
When in XBMC,
Select SYSTEM.
This should take you to...
Change your settings.
Then select Add-ons.
At the top of the next page,
there could be updates available.
If so, select this option.
Then select each update, one at a time.
This will take you to...
Add-on information.
Select Update.
Do this for each update available until the list clears.
Some updates may fail, they may update the next day or so.
I use a cordless mouse to operate my box,
A lot faster than the supplied remote, for me anyway.
Good luck and Merry Xmas
Available updates may flash up at the bottom right of your screen.
You can update when the adverts come on

Yes pipie as said above there are cheaper options ,I found them for £45 on eBay .
Why did I buy off droidsticks .....simple terms friend had 2 years ago and never had any real issues ,they update box and they are tech minded if you need them ,I am not.
You are free to buy off you like ,like I was .....I just had a thought of if I get 2 years from it like that it will do me .......then technology will have moved again ......I think a jail broken Apple TV is cheaper ?
I paid for sky movies for years and didn't watch them ,not a one .....so that would have been £700 minimum.
Now I do the opposite ,I have cheapest and like this use the technology that is out there .
