In light of the sad stories from the past couple of days, i would like to take this opportunity in spreading some good news about the dedication of Altay Sakar.

He has in recent months:

prevented a cat undergoing an unnecessary hernia operation, saved the life of a cat hit by a car on the Catalkoy/Girne Road, even taking the cat home with home with him on a Sunday to monitor his condition. Pinned a badly broken leg refusing to amputate. This guy is GOOD.

He will even do home visits if needed, and emergency callouts. So let's celebrate the good vets as well.

I have to say that Fouad at Garfield's in Alsancak is great too, incredibly helpful and so kind to animals. He knows our biggest dog, Zoe, from when she was a tiny emaciated, near-dead puppy who is now bidding fair to become a baby elephant. He always beams when we bring her in for her vaccinations, and the two of them have a love-in as she absolutely adores Fouad. He's great with our other dogs too and even handles well our grumpy oldest cat, Jezebel. It's good to remember that there are fine, dedicated vets in North Cyprus and let people know of their existence.

My personal feelings on any Vet, I assume they want to help animals to undertake the long training to become qualified, they all try hard, some have better equipment than others, some have better knowledge or even better, experience on certain illnesses but at the end of the day I don't think any Vet would choose to harm an animal so I say thank you to all the people who have bothered to qualify and try their best, that's all I ever ask for my pets when I consult them.

Must agree about Garfields, we have used him for a few years now for all our cats, we have found him excellent. I agree like people say with complex stuff he may not have the skills, bit for most things he is honest, caring, and never ever tries to take silly money from you.

He will tell you the truth and without sounding harsh, if there is no chance then he does not try to prolong the agony at your expense and the pet's suffering.

His bills have always been very low, and he very often gives us prescriptions for pediatric drugs to treat our cat's.

We did use a few other high profile vets previously, but very often we found our pets being kept overnight etc. and big bills. On looking back I think most of the time it was not necessary.

Bless you for that information. I have taken note of details should they be needed in future for my other 2 cats, especially the fact that he will come out in an emergency. Thank you.
