and don't forget that Yesil Hat (the Turkish version of Green Line) is a wonderful gift for your Turkish speaking friends, even if like me (unlearned and lazy) one cannot read the actual Turkish.

I have it in English for my self, and bought the turkish version for 2 friends. One said thank you, the other read a few pages and left the book with a few comments, hmm. And so I now have it to use as Soner suggested, learning a bit more Turkish.
What about you Marion, did you buy it for any of your Cypriot Turkish friends?
Perhaps see you Saturday? I will be there if possible.

No Marion, not at all strange. He is a source of knowledge. He was a young man in those days, saw a lot and lived through a lot of hardship with his family. They left a LOT on 'the dark side'. A few days after his 'remarks' about the book he tok me to Lefkoşa to see the cemetary with the names of all those who lost their lives, and the 'small museum', that is really not a museum, Şehit Aileleri ve Malül Gaziler Derneği, but a place to go and remember those who died. It is 4, or 5 rooms full of photos of those who died. You can buy books, or 'Albüm' as well, and I bought one from 1956 to 1963, and also got a CD in English. This two places are, as far as I see it, the right place to go if you want to know a bit more about how many Cypriot Turks lost their lives in those days, and why.

Thanks for the info. Just where do I find this place? I can see that Soner's book must have started opening up some memories for your friend. there is still so much pain around and people who have friends and family still listed as 'missing' and that is why the recent rlaly in Trafalgar Square made me so angry with people crying out about their missing, but they were speaking only of Greek Cypriots who are still missing. No recognitionof the pain of others, nor indeed that the history of Cyprus did NOT start in 1974. But I would like to visit the place you mention. How do I find it.

Marion, the Cemetery is easy to find. Entering the old part of Lefkoşa (Kyrenia gate) turn left second street. It is also the street where you will find Fazil Küçüks home (corner). Just there, on your right is a narrow street. Closed. An you will see the Cemetery there.
As for the photo collection (hope I get it right).
Instead of turning right to get to Kyrenia Gate, you turn left. You will see a building that the army is using, writing something like Gazi...., meaning soldier.Passing that you turn left and find the building with the photo collection on your right. And it is possible to find a parking place.
