How new passport is linked to 'old in & out'

I have just renewed my UK passport and of course it has a new number. Does that matter when I next visit and cross the border into the TRNC? Will I be treated simply as a new visitor? I (although I don't look it obviously) am now 60 and am presuming (I know, I know) that i will get the usual 90 day visa.
Should I ensure I carry my old passport just in case? Any advice welcomed.

A friend did this last week. Just take your old passport with you on the first crossing and then they can get the computer changed with your new number.

When we came in at Metehan the immigration officer looked at my husband's passport and asked where the old one was with the 'visitor'/residency stamp was. I said it was in the car and he made me go and get it. he told me that until the residency expired in February we must have both passports to come in and out.
As my husband is 70 this year, I did not think it was important.
When is a decision looking likely on this issue? We have been here for 10 years now and are still treated like holidaymakers.

We have had 2 UK passport renewals in our family of 3 living here. Take both (old and new) passports to Lefkoşa Immigration Office. Your new passport will be "Visitor" status stamped from that date until the expiry date of that original annual registration. No cost. Hopr this helps your case.

at entry point put both old and new passport on the counter and leave it to the immigration officer to deal with it. you will be issued with 90 days "that is if you don't have residency permit".
but then, if you already have residency permit in the old passport, he will then stamp entry date only on your passport (not 90 days visa).
No need to transfer residency to the new passport, just keep both passports together until renewal date of residency, go to the immigration with all required documents, and they will do the rest for you.
best of luck

Thanks everyone. We don't bother with the residency permit as we are but humble 'swallows' and a 90 day visa is fine. As a matter of interest, I sent off my old UK passport for renewal (in the UK) and had in back in 6 days!

Had my 'residency stamp' (which had 22 months to run before expiring) transferred to my new passport at Lefkosa Immigration today. All done in 10 minutes - no cost, just a 10 tl stamp.
I would like to record my thanks to Cafe Boss in Girne for all their help in arranging for DHL to courier my old passport to the UK Passport Office in Belfast. The new one was delivered to my door within 3 weeks with the old passport being returned in a separate package the following day. Brilliant service, thank you to all concerned.

I can also confirm that the Passport Agency returns your old passport (with one corner cut off). I also received mine back the next day after receiving my new passport. I was anxious as the old passport number was used in various legal documents in NC so old passport needed to confirm who I am.
