Quoting the first few sentences from the article :
*************************************
A joint Irish-Turkish production is set to relate the story of the Ottoman Empire’s aid to Ireland during the island’s famine between 1845 and 1851. World-famous actor Colin Farrell will star in the film.

Bringing a little-known aspect of the most traumatic period in Ireland’s history to the silver screen, a new film is set to tell the story of how the Ottoman Empire sent aid to the emerald isle at the outset of the potato famine in 1845.

“Famine” will be shot in both Ireland and Turkey on a $50 million budget and include noted Irish actors like Colin Farrell, as well as several Turkish movie stars.
*************************************
The article originally appeared in the Hurriyet Daily News.

Towards the end of the article it writes "the film’s biggest aim was to promote the Ottomans’ tenderness and greatness to the world and to show that Turkish people, the successors of the Ottomans, were not barbarians or invaders” - in any case, it all augurs well for Turkey, for when Ireland takes over the EU Presidency in 6 months' time

In the attachment below you can see, from left to right, three of the film's actors; Kenan İmirzalıoğlu, Colin Farrell and Burak Özçivit.

Thanks Mel

In this article, http://www.thepenmagazine.net/the-great ... o-ireland/ it states that there is no real evidience any ships took aid, but the Ottomans did send cash.
However, Drogheda's football club certainly appreciated the Ottomans' generosity as you can see from the club's emblem on this wikipedia link :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drogheda_United_FC

By the way, according to the story (that the GCs are currently disputing ) the reason for Drogheda, a town 35 miles north of Dublin, adopting the star and crescent is because the ships had to offload the aid there as the British would have prevented them landing in Dublin.
