I saw these advertised on ebay - they look like a good idea-can you buy them here?

I have never seen them here but we did buy one in the UK and brought it back with us. They are brilliant as the water runs hot instantly which alleviates the problem and waste of having to run your water for ages before the hot water comes through.

How does it work in conjunction with solar panel ?
Can you isolate the water heater when you use the solar panel Iin the warmer months ?

Those ones you are talking about run from the ring mains and do not warm the water anything like the triton shower you have pictured witch needs to run on 6 mil cable that runs from the mains direct to the unit giving it an 8.5 watt feed it also needs to be run on an direct feed from the pump it wont run on a gravity feed system

I know you can get this sort of shower here, as my Turkish neighbour has one and you do need a dedicated fuse in your fuse board

I dont know but Getaz in Kyrenia op the old Ezec shop are Triton dealers weather they do the small sink hot water unit i dont know if you want one might be worth a try .It will be 3times the price of the same unit in UK

I probably should have been a bit more specific in my original post as to why I was interested in this heater.

I currently heat my water with a retro fitted (by a forum member) gas hot water heater which is great for showers etc,I also have 2 solar water panels-I have an immersion too but very rarely use it.my water system is pressurised.

The problem I have is that ,especially in the kitchen,it takes an age for the hot water to come through,maybe a couple of minutes-but the gas water heater comes on as soon as I turn the hot tap on.
This strikes me as very inefficient(as well as being a pain)as I am heating a volume of water which is staying in the pipe and going cold after I turn the tap off-much better I think to have the water heated where it is needed which has 2 benefits-I am only heating what I need,and I am getting it quickly.

Kiplet -that is a good point,I would suggest adding an extra bit of bypass pipe and a couple of valves so that you can isolate the heater in the summer and still use your free hot water from your solar panels-though I would still have the slow delivery of hot water issue in the kitchen.

Gates-If you scroll to the bottom of the ad, you will see that they do a range of models going up to 11Kw-and the higher powered models run off 2 phase 400v.

They look good to me and very compact- they claim to have sold millions of them,and have all the relevant certificates-I think I will try one in the kitchen first,and if it's good maybe downstairs cloakroom and hand basins.

I would suggest also(but I've not done the sums)that although electric might be more expensive than gas based on a direct comparison per litre heated - when you factor in the wasted hot water in your pipework(which I appreciate is different in every home)I would think the electric method is cheaper as there is only a minimal volume of water left in the pipe.

I have the same problem and I went to Amazon, see link above. I put this item in my 'basket' and it said it would deliver to my TRNC address.

the item is £40.25 + 16.33 postage = £56.58

It says: Dispatched from and sold by Amazon and usually that means its ok and also if there is a problem you just get your money back, no quibbles.

Dippersgirl -I did consider one of those-but I have a window over the kitchen sink/drainer so nowhere to fit it.Also you need to knock into the wall I think with those to put a pipe in,whereas the undersink model just cuts into the existing pipework.

If you go over 8.5k.watt you need a bigger cable 10mil to run the 9.5s also you mean 3phase giving you 415 volts but you would not have this in your house although it is running to the transformer supply that is sited somewhere on your site location
The reason i suggested Getaz is they are the only Triton dealers i know that are in the north side Triton is by far the best make of electric showers but i dont know if they supply the under sink model pahaps they have a web site you can look on

Have recently fitted an electric shower. Advice and final connection from an ex UK electrician ( not working here) having checked prices buying one here or in the South is almost double the price.
However works well and wastes little water compared to the immersion. Simply attached to the existing " mains" shower outlet. This also takes advantage of water heated by the solar panels as it has an" Eco" setting.

Is it possible to just have a on off switch on the water heater in order to isolate when switching over to solar in the summer months ?

Philoz can you give us an update when you have fitted one please ? Any idea when that will be ? Will you be fitting yourself ?

I have fitted 2 Triton showers out here and found it is best to buy the ones that have the large filter in line with the unit due to the poor water here
They both work fine and although they dont have as mush power as the normal shower they are quite effective and give you as much hot water as you want
mind you if you fit one of my immersion heaters at a lot less cost they heat the water very quick and are guaranteed for 10yrs when you consider how many showers you have is it all worth it most of us have dish washers to so what is the point when they all run off the cold supply not like the old ones in UK hot and cold supply this also applies to your washing machine

Kiplet-It will be about 8 weeks before I can get my hands on one -I will post back when it's up and running
