I renewed my car tax on Monday to find it had increased by just over 300tl since last year.Ive got a 2003 Freelander and the tax cost nearly 1900tl for the year.I know it's calculated on weight but It still seems steep.Has anyone else been surprised with an increase on last year?

It is not calculated on weight it CC, and then is it petrol or diesel.

Jeeps are also far more expensive than ordinary vehicles. The deciding factor seems to be the presence of a transfer box (high/low ratio - 2wd/4wd). My 2005 Honda HRV is permanent 4WD but it doesn't have a transfer box and is classed as a normal car - 410tl this year for 1600cc.

Car tax is calculated on the following size of engine- the bigger more cash
petrol/diesel -diesel " "
weight of vehicle-heavier " "
age of vehicle - less than 10 years old/TRNC reg more cash
ours became older than 10 years this year so we paid less tha less year, hope this helps

Mine used to be 60TL per annum, for my 23 year old Vitara 4WD, but it's gone up
- to 83.91 TL - Outrageous!

Well keithcaley if you put a 1 in front of the 8 & a 6 in front if the 3 from the figure you paid I guess we paid nearly the same.I wish I could afford to be smug but I'm now broke!!
