My daughter found this bright green spider in her bathroom. Any one know what kind it is (part from scary!)...

Should we be worried??

Believe it is a Green Huntsman

I don't think it's a Green Huntsman as the legs are different and it's not so hairy. Plus the legs in the photo look flat at the end, as if they're like suckers. We had one in our kitchen the other day, so I popped it in a glass and released it outside - saved it getting noshed on by the dogs or cats.

This type of spiders are common in Cyprus and is harmless, they feed on small insects and ants. Spiders normally are sleeping this time of the year, obviously this one woke up in a warm room a bit early for him!!!!!. So, don't get alarmed and don't harm it, for he was looking for food.

Here is a rule of thumb, remember, most of the spiders are harmless, only few are registered to be poisonous or deadly, and rarely attack an animal or human.
My advise here, identify the dangerous /harmful (venomous) ones and try to avoid them if you can.
Get your daughter to read learn about spiders, I am sure she will enjoy the science behind these fascinating creatures. Besides, she will learn how to deal with it.

I suggest when you see another one in your house or "in the bathroom", you simply lead it gently towards an empty jar and release it into the wild. don't forget to wish it a safe journey and happy hunting. He/ she will be grateful for saving its life.

Thanks "Fatsam", great reply and very informative. We have a rule in our Villa that if we find any spiders we give them safe passage to the great outdoors. In this case we did as you mentioned but didn't wish it a safe journey and happy hunting! I will suggest to our daughter to read up on them, can you suggest any good wesbites or just google? I reckon it was "the Green Huntsman", thanks to everyone else who posted.

I am sorry I can not recommend any reading as I am not familiar of your daughter age. However, I have an idea for you if you Google (Images for spiders of Cyprus). select few photos and print them out and do a little garden exploration.
In my experience, when my girls were young, We used to do a bit of "garden hunt" wearing wellington boots funny hats and using "magnifiers". Children love colourful adventure, don't bore them with details at the beginning, let them loose in the garden and enjoy their childhood joy "before they grow up".

I see few members put suggestions to website, check them out and judge if some of the info and photos are useful .
