Anyone know what the loud bangs and booms are. Somewhere behind Esentepe. Don't think it's thunder.

That's a long way from where we live (in Edremit) and we have been listening to these noises all afternoon.

I kept sending hubby out in the rain to check nothing was falling off the house

He is not going to be too impressed when I tell him about this thread!!

Never heard anything, but there is a fierce wind tonight. Maybe it was the army on maneuvers and the sound travelled. Now I am intrigued. Anyone got an explanation?

Quarrying blast happens every now and then. Sound & echo travels through the valley cross the mountain, hence you hear the thunder like sound. Shame, you can not do anything to stop it.....

Not pleasant noise/ sound pollution harmful for humans, animals and the environment.

Quarrying stone from our beautiful mountains, destroying habitits and flora to use it to cover yet more of the beautiful coastline with yet more ugly (and as far as I can see, unnecessary) concrete and buildings destroying yet more (often protected) wild plans and bird adn animal homes it not exactly environmentally friendly either!

Ragged Robin my friend

I am of same opinion with regards to quarrying the mountain, human influence/ alteration of nature in pursue of natural resources, which of course has irreversible damage.

The issue of exhausting natural resources and damaging the environment is a political and economical.

There is a great need for a decision maker who appreciate the environment and strive introduce Environmental Laws.
Law that can be implemented considering the preservation of resources for future generation and prosperity.
Until then the Loud Bangs and Booms will continue... You understand what I mean.!!

Shame, we humans are failing Global Nature & The Environment.

I'm pretty sure they do not quarry blast rocks night... the Army, on the other hand, do run night manoeuvres.
