To get a kimlik card you would have to be a Turkish Cypriot or married to a TC. If your parents were Turkish Cypriot but never received a kimlik you also are eligible. Hope this helps.

I have edited my post as it appears my sense of humour may have offended.
Apologies.

Your post is very near to slander, I have a Kimlik Card but do not have a criminal conviction of any kind, I am not married to a Cypriot but have lived on the Island for over 20 years. I will have a word with my friend about your post.
It is very easy to make statements like you have just made, but you have no conception of the way of life here or you would not make them.
My last word on this is you are a complete expat prat.

I would say very frustrated to be fair, Karmels was here in the really good old days admittedly working but supported in the community. My parents came to live in 1987 went back in 2004/5 and their money went far, there were not hundreds of people scraping for a living, no friends doing pools, able to apply for kimliks, no KDV and everyone seemed to know each other and help. Since 2000 when the green line opened and talk of becoming one island opportunists came, people have been ripped off, rules have been changed and changed so nobody really knows what the procedure is but also in the bigger world money has become important and people know and want more. I have only left the island for about 9 days in 10 years but I have no idea how to apply for a kimlik, I get told I qualify but now stamps not years count!

I have been advised to see Pembe from CAC but until the end of this month I don't qualify for all the changes I have been advised have taken place.

My wife and I have had Kimlik cards for over 13 years, at the time of applying we had a business. It helps if you have a Turkish friend who could help you apply, we used our accountant, It took 3 years from applying to getting the Kimlik cards, again it helps to have local friends as your application goes to so many different offices in some it gets lost so you will need help to get it moving again, we didn't pay anyone for doing this.
Lastly all males who have a Kimlik will have to do national service 3 years, with no chance of a reduced period by paying a fee as london Turks are able to do.
There is not much more I can add, people are saying they are not issuing Kimlik cards but they are, maybe not to Brits.
