I have a weak Wi-Fi signal area in one room. I would like to extend the coverage and thought that using powerline adaptors and a second router would solve my problem. Running a cable from my existing router to a second router could be done but I really don't want more cable running across the roof if powerline adaptors are a viable option.
Is anyone using adaptors and are they worthwhile.

I've been using a 'Devolo dlan 500 AVtriple' powerline adapter for the last three years. Excellent signal and no problems.

Thanks for the reply david. I have read the specs but they don't mention extending the wi fi coverage. This is the main reason for buying adaptors.

This might be what you are looking for.

Can second the use of the Devolo but make sure you buy the starter kit that contains the adaptor that connects to your router - many places sell just the WiFi adaptor on its own but you need the router adaptor as well to make it all work. Devolo claim up to 300 mtrs range on WiFi but I have never managed more than 80 mtrs out here! If you use a second router (which seems like a cheap option) then you are buying into trouble unless you really know what you are doing and are happy to go round re-booting all your routers etc when your signal drops off, I have three in my system and it can be "interesting" when signals drop out here!! I have the excess of routers because I am a cheap git and my Devolo packed in but I had spare routers - one day I will fork out the cash and go back to them, lol.

Devolo, by far the best I have come across, don't hesitate get one, be sure you buy both part if purchasing here.

Rather than "plugin to mains" systems, I have a ALFA USB wifi adapter; I've brought it with me to use on holiday in TRNC with my laptop, and I've been able to hook up to (free access) wifi sources from 200 - 300 yards away (maybe more, I don't know!). I first heard of these on another forum I use, where someone was needing a holiday-suitable system, and these were highly recommended - after use, I also highly recommend them. It is also possible to buy a flat panel directional antenna to use with it; I also bought one, but so far I haven't found much improvement over the standard antenna supplied. There are plenty of suppliers on eBay.

Following on from the earlier posts and after a discussion with Erol, I decided to purchase a set of TP Link wireless extenders.

Set them up in less than 5 minutes and now I have wireless access throughout the villa.

Thought I might have a problem following a power cut, had one this morning but when power came on everything connected immediately.
