Selling a Car after owner passes away.
I know this is a delicate subject but can anyone advise as to the procedure.
A good friend of mine passed away recently and the family will be wanting to sell his car, Will they be able to do this or has paperwork got to be completed?,Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to here about your friend, the car will have to go to probate before you can sell it, a notar will be able to give you better advice.

When my husband died, because my name was NOT on the log book, it had to go through probate. I was advised it could take up to 18 months! but only took 8 months Current advise given now is to get all names put on log book at the time of purchase to avoid any future problems!

Just completed a probate on a car £1000 advokat,800tl for a new log book to be issued in a new name
Apparently the car should be itemised as part of the will according to advokat
This took 11 months and many visits to various offices

Mine was a straight forward will, everything left solely to me (except the car!!! I don't drive) From memory the total bill to change Kocan and all the "legal "stuff, re-writing my will etc was around £2500!.

Re: Selling a Car after owner passes away.
My husband died 3.5 years ago, but his name was still on the log book when I wanted to trade in the car a month ago. What a business. First to the advocate who probated the Will, which left everything to me, but should apparently, have stipulated the car separately, since it was in joint names. The advocate didn't enquire, assuming perhaps, that there was no car! Hopefully, he'll enquire in future. Masses of paperwork, to be taken to 5 different places in Lefkosa, so several trips down there,--fortunately with the TC car salesman, who also had good English and knew his way around. Three more trips to the Advocate, plus a request for a form, which had been omitted, to be Faxed from him to the Vehicle Tax Office, our final destination. Eventually, the trade-in car's Log-book was registered to the car salesman's business, and all was concluded. But be warned. Anything jointly owned must be specified in the Will
