Hello,
Would anyone be able to tell me if you need to tax your car, if it is off the road for a few months?
Maybe in a garage or on driveway.
Thank you for your replies.

No need to tax it if it is off the road as they will backdate the tax with small penalties when you do!

If you do not pay your road tax it starts to incur penalties if you leave to long it will double, all cars must have upto date tax at all times on or off the road.

You can 'SORN' it but a minimum of six month which run in the period your tax is due. Example if tax due January it would be January to June, June to January or January to January. The six months it is on the road you will pay extra tax not half of the yearly tax. However please note if you use the car to pop to the shops the fine is very high if SORN as you have told a lie where if you use a car without tax that I suppose is more forgetful and far less.

You should also know that if you don't tax your vehicle for more than a three year period then you will have to re-register it again. You still get to pay the back tax as well and it is expensive!!!! Best bet is just to keep it taxed all the time, on or off the road!

Sorry Kirk I don't know what they call it here hence the ' ' around SORN as Brits would understand what I meant. A customer does it every year his tax is due in April and he takes the car off the road every winter. I know he has to inform lefkosa in September when he should pay the next six months and he also taxes in April at Lefkosa for six months. Once he came back in March and had to pay the full six months
