Can anyone tell me where the nearest sterling dispensing ATM is to Alsancak/Lapta. The Granti bank ATM at Alpet garage, Alsancak, no longer dispenses sterling (or didn't today) only displayed TL or Euro.
Thanks!

Don't know another one close but the garanti bank will just have run out of sterling, often happens. Doesn't help when you need it of course, but they seem to get refilled fairly often.

This appears to be limited to £20, is this always the case or was the machine running out of money??

The ATM at the big Starling next to Ileli also has sterling. Both it and the one in the petrol station give out £20's and yes, they do run out of money quite often.

Yes - I regularly use the Starling (Alsancak) ATM to withdraw sterling (I usually draw £300 a go) and it was certainly working yesterday (Tuesday).

Do you get charged by your bank in UK for using these?

I think it depends on your bank. I have a Nationwide card and am not charged when I draw Sterling.

Withdrawal charges? No - if using your debit card to withdraw sterling I am pretty sure no UK bank charges (mine don't - Natwest and Santander).

I'm with the co-op bank & they charge 2% on a sterling withdrawal
& 3% on a tl withdrawal using a visa debit card.
Max is £250 per day.

The standard Nationwide Flex accounts have charged for overseas withdrawals for the last couple of years - when they changed this they gave customers free travel insurance instead. We now draw sterling from an HSBC cash point and then change to Lira to avoid the charges.

I have a Nationwide flex account and I have never been charged for withdrawing sterling from an ATM machine in the TRNC. I do this at least 3 times a month.

I use Nationwide Flex account debit card to withdraw sterling every week for 3 months when I am on holiday there, HSBC Geranti and TEB without charge, if I withdraw TL there is a charge. I also have the free travel insurance 12 month European. There is aNationwide card account different from Flex there is a charge for that one. Also use a Nationwide credit card if I purchase in Sterling there is no commission so pay my Hotel bill with it.
