Can anyone please let me know where i can obtain a TRNC driving licence please? I have the appropriate bits of signed paper(s) and just want to know where the office is. Thanks

Behind the general hospital/ inside the tax office/ground floor/second cubicle on your left.

Do you know what documentation is required for the application? The office building is in Atom Sk. Coming from Girne town centre towards the Pia Bella, turn left before the State Hospital. Pass the hospital turning and turn right and then take the 1st right - park where you can. The office is on the right. In main door, half left and the cubicles are on your left. Smile sweetly and have patience.

If this is your first application for a TRNC driving license I think you have to go to the main office in Lefcosa.

You need to go to Lefkosa for your first application at the tax office. Directions. Main roundabout at Lefkosa from Girne. 2nd exit to city centre. Straight on past hospital and traffic lights. Another roundabout straight on(2nd exit) keep to left hand lane. Traffic lights straight on. About 100m move to right hand lane as road forks soon take right fork signed Ledra Palace. Come to a roundabout with geometric slabs on it 2nd exit(straight on) keep to the left follow the road round. On your right is the Sun Exchange building and hire car office. take the 1st left the 1st right and its the modern dark glass building on your left. Enter ground floor main entrance and desk is on your right.

I used Ozbek Driving School to get mine, 50 TL. It's near the Wednesday market, next to the Police station. Telephone 815 4664.

Ok, looking to apply for the first time for TRNC driving licence. I know there has been some info posted on this thread but just want to confirm to save time going to the wrong offices. Pretty sure we have relevant bits of paper and copies of. Need to confirm the following, bearing in mind this is a first application:

1. Can we go to the offices next to hospital in Girne and complete the necessary forms to apply or do we definately have to go to Lefkosia to fill in forms? We thought you could complete paperwork at offices in Girne and they get sent off and we then had to go to Lefkosia to collect licence a few weeks later?

2. If we have to go to Lefkosia can someone confirm location and directions to offices?

Posh, you DO need to go to the Lefkosia office for your first application! The directions given by doepfool are correct - BUT - have missed out a set of traffic lights. "Straight on past hospital and traffic lights. Another roundabout straight on(2nd exit) keep to left hand lane. Traffic lights straight on. After the hospital and second roundabout there are TWO sets of traffic lights, keep to the left at both of them. Make sure that when you get to the second set of lights - it is a major junction - that you go straight across. You will recognize this set of lights as it is probably where you normally turn left to go to the residency office - go straight across!!! Easy-ish to find but the car park gets very full very fast so good luck. To get back onto the main roads again when you leave, head towards the North and follow your nose, kind of left out of the car park and then get behind a local and hang on their tail till you figure out where you are, its fun!

As we have just done residency the road to Lefkosia is very familiar! As for coming out of town, think we have wobbled around many different routes but head for mountains and flag seems to work for us......its fun anyway.

Yes, that's it, nothing ever happens on the day but if they say come back in two weeks then its Cyprus weeks and of course it is summer now as well. Having said that I do know of one guy who walked in and waited 30 minutes then walked out with his new license so I guess it is possible. Sorry, don't know the cost now but try and get one for as long as you can, it used to be restricted to a maximum of 3 years but I think you can now get it for 5 years - citizens can have a 10 year license.

Waddo.....thanks again for the advice. Think we are sorted now somwill probably take a drive to Lefkosia sometime this week and get things started. Will try and make sure we dont go on some obscure public holiday to find everywhere closed......yes we have managed to do this!

Will combine this with a wander round the old city so that will be the day done.

OK, applied for our FIRST TRNC DRIVING LICENCES THIS MORNING

First time applicants go to Lefkosia to apply. Directions are on this thread and offices are easy to find. Building is modern with grey smoked glass windows. Go thro main entrance turn right thro automatic doors and the driving licence counter is on your right.

You will need the following:

Passport and photocopy of passport. If you have a residency stamp in passport you need to photocopy this as well. If no residency stamp the Muktar letter required.

Two passport photographs

Original and photocopy of UK licence. If you just have paper licence then copy this. If you have new plastic UK licence then photocopy of both sides, plus the paper counterpart as well.

There are application forms (Blue in colour) on the counter....these are in turkish. However if you ask they have copy in English behind counter. Fill in form. Indicate how many years you want. Max on offer was 3 years. Sign and date form.

Take a seat for about 30 mins. You will be called back to counter to pay for licence. Current cost was 285TL for 3 years. Pay fee. You will then be given receipt for payment which also acts as temporary TRNC licence if you need any proof. Told to return in 3 - 4 weeks witn receipt tomcollect licence.

If you need photocopying done, go to first floor, cafeteria will copy for you -1TL per copy.

Signs in entrance foyer are in Turkish and English so you cannot go wrong.

We went yesterday for first time application of a driving licence. Forms filled in and he only wanted the pink plastic card UK licence copied plus a copy of the residency page and photo page of passport. Two photos and 290tl each for a three year licence.
40 minutes total and a return visit to collect actual plastic card licence in a couple of weeks.

Will a copy of the Muhtar's letter do or will I have to get a new one? I got one recently for importing personal effects but that was kept by shipping agent in Gazimagusa. I have a copy.

Do the passport photos have to have a white background? It says this on the English application form but nobody seems to have mentioned that.

Certainly for residency you need an original muhtar's letter every year, they won't accept copies so probably best to get a new one unless you want to risk a wasted trip. If it says white background then best to comply. We got a 10 year licence in 2009 so it's changed a bit since then.

Got mine last week. Copy both sides UK photo license, copy Mucturs letter,copy passport correct form. Present with original license & passport. Pick up license in 2 - 3 weeks. Must go to Lefcosia office 1st time. 303TL for 3 years

Just renewed mine for 10 years - 755 TL

So, you didn't need original of Muhtar's letter....copy was OK?

What about passport photos....do they have to have white background?

Is 3 years the maximum for first time?
