On http://www.haberkktc.com/haber/dunyanin ... 30925.html it writes that the world's largest grape vine is to be found in Yeşilırmak, as apparently verified by the Guinness Book of Records. Yeşilırmak is about as far west as you can get in the TRNC.

... well I presume it is the same vine.

I bet they have one in the South as big and anyway, probably a GC planted it and TRNC has no right to claim this as theirs. They are after all an illegal country

I wrote an article on that last year! Trouble is I don't know how to put it on here, so you will have to believe whatever ian's link is. But yes, it is true, except when one sees it, it doesn'/t look anything these days as it did when it went into the GBR.

I have just this minute come home from Asmail's restaurant where the grape vine is located.

Had a swim in the bay and then had a lovely lunch there. The owner gave us a huge bunch of grapes from the vine in question...wish I knew how to post photo's!!!!!!

Hopefully my first attemp at posting a photo will come out!!

The grape vine at Asma plaj casino is recorded as the biggest grape vine in the world! It is of the Verigo variety which most of you will have tasted and is most delicious, a firm grape.
The vine is situated in the village of Yesilirmak which is the location of the new / most recent crossing or border to the ROC. This village is a Turkish Cypriot one and was defended and fortified against attack from the early 60's.
The vine is planted directly above a natural spring, the water coming from the Trodos mountains and the spring water can actually be drunk in the sea, where is comes up from the sea bed.

and also in Yesilirmak......sorry for going off topic a bit......is a fabulous artist called Ismail who carves the most beautiful faces from pieces of wood. He is currently exhibiting his work in Gokova (Akyaka) in Turkey, but when he comes back, well worth a visit.....on the way to the grapevine.....he is a lovely man.
