I have just heard that John Oram has passed away this morning in Lefkosa hospital. He was a stalwart member of the BRS and will be known to many people through his ties both with BRS and with St Andrews. He will be sadly missed by the BRS and its committee and condolences are sent to his wife Sandy, and their family.

Just to let you knlow that I have heard the sad news that John Oram has died. He and his wife Sandy have been here 'for ever' and John has been involved in many acitivities - the church and the PCC, the Cheshire Home, the BRS and more.
condolences go to Sandy who has been a brick to john as he has struggled with cancer for some time. I last saw him and we had a conv ersation with John sharing that he had a stent put in and all was well. That wretched, wretched big C - it is time God abolished it.

Don't know any details of the funeral etc, but the BRS will be opening a condolences page on the website. If you wish to express your sentiments please contact David Brown of BRS with your words to dwb.brstrnc@gmail.com.

So sorry to say Goodbye to such a contributor to life innorthern Cyprus.

Could I ask is this the same Mr Oram who sadly was made to give up his Villa to a greek person through the courts ? or a different Mr Oram ?

No that is a diffferentone. You are thinking of Linda and david orams (an 's' on the end). John Oram is a different pperson altogether.

Just heard that the funeral is Saturday 12.30p.m. at the Green Hill Cemetery. Request is no flowers please, but money to Tulips if one wishes.
Unfortunatley it clashes with two other activities - such a shame as I am sure there are many people who would like to be in two places at once. But that doesn't stop us helping Tulips, I guess!

This may seem a really daft question but I have had 3 messages, 2 of which are informing me that John's funeral will be at Green Hills Cemetry and one telling me it will be held at Lapta Cemetry, are these both the same place or not?

If not can someone tell me where Lapta Cemetry is please?

Lapta cemetery is behind the Moslem one. Easy way is past Lapta strip til you get to the Lapta turn off on the left that has the little triangular island for in and out, go up til a sort of messy T junction and turn right. Its past the australian houses, a turn off on to a track road on the left which runs by the side of the moslem cemetery. I gather no shade and no seating - so take a brolly if you are going!!

Sorry but I am now really confused. It Lapta Cemetery a different place from Green Hills? And were your directions when coming from Lapta or coming from Girne please Mamachina. Ie is it on the sea side or the mountain side of the original main road.

Does anyone know if there will be any kind of service, possibly Memorial, for those who cannot get to the Cemetery?

Two different places in two different areas. I understand that Lapta is more like a field, whereas Green Hills has a structure on site. I think the instrucitons were coming from Girne. as to a separate service, maybe (and I have no idea) ~Sandy will arrange for something later at church. But one would need to wait for her to say. I have no idea at all, but I am sure that if there were those who wanted to pay respects and who cannot go to the funeral, that she may give consideration as she would be delighted to know how much John was respected and loved. wait and see what, if anything is announced.

I went to the area today (Turn left opposite the Lapeda Hotel, then turn right at T junction if you come from Alsancak side, keep going until you come to large Muslim cemetery) - its just a bare field to the rear of the Muslim cemetery and only has about 12 or 15 graves in it. There is no shade at all (unlike Greenhills) and you will need to take a brolly as the sun will be immediately overhead. Obviously I don't know Sandy's thinking yet as to a memorial service, but I do know that John was much loved and respected by a huge number of people.
