Help!
Help! A cargo ship with a crew from Ukraine has been near Famagusta port for several days. Because of the problems between a ship owner and an agent in North Cyprus the crew has not been paid , they do not have food and water .
We are asking for help. We agreed with the Hurdeniz fish shop (near Girne roundabout to Lefkosa) to put a box there where people can bring and put food .
Anyone who would like to help can come to the Hurdeniz shop and leave some food or water for the seamen in trouble.
We are going to organise a delivery of this food to the ship tomorrow. Thank you!

Re: Help!
I think people might be more trusting if you said who you were and who the others are that are helping. Being anonymous might make people suspicious. But I do hope you can help. Why oh why is the ship stuck there and why are the officials being so difficult. And why can't the people on the boat giver you money to go shopping for them. Ordo you just have a big, big heart?

Thank you , Marion!
I represent a Russian speaking Association of Northern Cyprus. We have got a hot tel. line where people who are living or coming here to live can ask questions.
Some time ago we received a telephone call from the captain of the ship asking for help.
Their cargo ship came to NC a few days ago. But the owner of the ship and the agent he deals with in North Cyprus have got some arguments and the agent refused to pay money . According to these people.
and now the crew are withour food and water, they do not have disel to go back to Ukraine , they are waiting for the conflict between the agent and the captainto be resolved . meanwhile one of the member of the crew got sick and we orginised him to take to the hospital.
Our Association wrote to the Ukranian Consul asking for help , we knew it was in vain , but still we did it.
Today we contacted the captain and he said he was going to the shore ( apparently they are not allowed to go from the ship) to sell their mobiles and buy some food.
That is why we decided to start collecting donations.
In Hurdeniz shop in Girne you will find boxes with food and water people donate.
Not everybody , of course, do this but we are grateful.
We rae going to send these boxes tomorrow to Famagusta.

I am a member of the Russian Speaking Association of Northern Cyprus.
We have got a hot line for people living or coming here to live permanently.
A few days ago we got a call from a captain of the ship asking for help.
According to him , their cargo ship delivered some goods but their agent refused to pay their salaries , they are not allowed to go to the shore , they have run out of water and food, they do not have diesel to go back.
They are waiting for the conflict between the owner of the ship and the agent to be resolved but at the moment they are in despair that is why they asked us for help. There are 10 members of the crew.
We sent a message to the Ukrainian Consulate in Nicosia but it was in vain , this country does not exit, that is why problems do not exist.

Re: Help!
Russiancyprus - 8 boxes of food and water is good.
Any idea how long this situation will be ongoing and are you continuing collecting at Hur Deniz.
Conditions aboard ship must be horrendous for everyone.
Please let us know if we can be of any further practical help to these stricken people.

Re: Help!
Yesterday the boxes were delivered , the crew were extremely happy to have a lot of water ! ( They had started drinking distilled water)
We hope that today - tomorrow the situation will be resolved and the people will be able to go back home. If not, I will keep posting the information.
Unfortunately , no pictures .
But BIG THANK YOU from the seamen and the captain.
We will write an article and send it to Cyprus Today.

Re: Help!
I need lots more information to do an article. And of course Cyprus Todayu has a mid week edition, so they will beat me to it. so can't I meet you and get the story etc, etc? Even if I don't get the story, I am so glad that the shop was helped. it all sounded very sad.

Re: Help!
I have sent this THANK YOU! letter to Cyprus Today but they did not publish it.
A few days ago our Russian Speaking People Association received a telephone call from a Ukranian ship that was held up near Famagusta.
According to the captain of the ship they brought some goods to North Cyprus and were going to return back to Ukraine. But because of some misunderstandings and a dispute between the owner of the ship ( who is in Ukraine) and the local North Cyprus agent , the crew was left withour any money , they had run out of food, water . They did not have money to buy diesel.
The seamen cannot go on shore , cannot buy anything , they were in despair.
What could we do ?
We wrote to the Ukranian Consulate on the Greek side and started the campaign to collect food and water in the Hurdeniz fish shop in Girne.
Thanks to many people during a few hours there were eight boxes with food and bottles of water.
We delivered those boxes and water to the board of the ship. And recieved a BIG THANK YOU from the captain and the crew.
We hope that the dispute between the owner and the local agent will be resolved and the seamen will be able to start their eight days journey back to Ukraine.
We would like to thank ALL people who helped us to help the people in trouble.
Those who bought or brought the food and water to Hurdeniz shop in Girne.
We would like to thank the owner of the shop, Kenan HURDENIZ , who was most helpful. And also his staff .
We would like to thank ILKOS TUR the tourist company, for their assistance, understanding and quick response . Without them the food and water for the crew would be still in Girne.
Unfortunately, the Ukranian Consulate ignored their people in trouble and did not respond to our plea.
What is the aim of all these consulates and embassies abroad ?????

Re: Help!
so why didn't you send ME the thank you letter. I am sure Cyprus Star would have published it. too late now. But why didn't Cyprus Today pub lish it, I wonder.
It all sounds very sad that they left without salaries etc I would love to hear the story from the agents point of view. all very sad, and very odd.
